OWEZ
Windpark Egmond aan Zee (OWEZ) is the first large scale offshore wind farm built off the Dutch North Sea coast. The wind park is owned by Shell. It consists of 36 Vestas V90-3MW wind turbines, each with nameplate capacity of 3 MW. In total the farm has a capacity of 108 MW. Together these are scaled to provide energy for a maximum of 100,000 households. Location and size The wind farm is located to off the coasts of Egmond aan Zee and is visible from the shore. Size of the farm is a projected . It was built by a consortium of Ballast Nedam and wind turbine manufacturers Vestas. The facility is being refurbished in 2021. Wind Power In The Netherlands
, wind power in the Netherlands has an installed capacity of 8,304 MW, 29.6% of which is based offshore. In 2019, the wind turbines provided the country with 12% of its electricity demand during the year, a figure that is growing but somewhat below the average of 15% that wind power provides across the whole of the EU's electricity consumption. The Dutch are trying to meet the EU-set target of producing 14% of total energy use from renewable sources by 2020, and 16% by 2023. Windmills have historically played a major part in the Netherlands by providing an alternative to water driven mills. Ballast Nedam is a Dutch-based construction and engineering company headquartered in Nieuwegein. The company resulted from a merger between Amsterdamse Ballast Maatschappij and Nederlandse Aannemingsmaatschappij. History As the name might suggest, Ballast Nedam has its origins in the convergence of two separate lines of business. Egmond Aan Zee
Egmond aan Zee () is a village on the North Sea coast in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Bergen, about 9 km west of Alkmaar. Egmond aan Zee was a separate municipality until 1978, when it merged with Egmond-Binnen and Egmond aan den Hoef to form the new municipality Egmond. In turn, Egmond was amalgamated into Bergen on 1 January 2001. History This best-known of the three villages of Egmond was formed in the coastal dunes. According to legend, it was founded around 977. Settlers in this area have battled the sea since the first settlements. During the All Saints' Flood of 1570, some 50 houses disappeared into the sea. The Princess Amalia Wind Farm (Prinses Amaliawindpark in Dutch language, Dutch) is an offshore wind farm in the Netherlands. Prior to its official opening, it was known as the Q7 Wind Farm. Specifications The wind farm lies approximately 23 km off the coast of IJmuiden. It consists of 60 Vestas V80-2.0MW wind turbines and has a total nameplate capacity of 120 megawatt, MW. The wind turbine towers rest on steel monopile foundations, in water depths of 19 to 24 meters. Each monopile is a steel tube with diameter of about 4 meters, length of over 50 meters, weighing 320 tonnes, and driven 30 meters into the seabed.
