Golden Melody Award
The Golden Melody Awards (), commonly abbreviated as GMA, is an honor awarded by Taiwan's Ministry of Culture to recognize outstanding achievement in the Mandarin, Taiwanese Hokkien, Hakka, and Formosan-languages popular and traditional music industry. The GMAs are awarded on the basis of votes by members of jury, and it has constantly been recognized as the equivalent to the Grammy Awards in Chinese-speaking world. It shares recognition of the music industry as that of the other performance awards such as the Golden Bell Awards (television) and the Golden Horse Awards (motion pictures). The 1st Golden Melody Awards was held on January 6, 1990, to honor the popular music production by performers. F4 (band)
F4 (Flower Four) or JVKV was a Taiwanese boy band consisting of Jerry Yan, Vanness Wu, Ken Chu, and Vic Chou. The group F4 was formed in 2001 after the Taiwanese drama '' Meteor Garden'' that they starred in was widely successful. Together they have starred in several Taiwanese drama series and released three albums, ''Meteor Rain'' (2001), '' Fantasy 4ever'' (2002), and '' Waiting for You'' (2007). According to ''Forbes'', F4 has sold 3.5 million copies of their first two albums all over Asia as of July 2003. Ken Chu
Ken Chu () is a Taiwanese singer, composer, actor, cook; and a member of Taiwanese Mandopop vocal quartet boy band F4. Educated in Singapore (Boon Lay Secondary School), he speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and English. Biography Chu was working as a waiter in Taiwan when he was discovered by Cai Zhiping, the creator of the boy band F4. He started in showbiz working as a part-time as an assistant for some artists, then acting in several idol series successfully which pushed him to the center of the stage. He starred in the TV series, ''Meteor Garden'', its supplementary mini-series, ''Meteor Rain'', and its sequel, ''Meteor Garden II''. He was the lead in ''Sky of Love'' (2003) and ''Tokyo Trial'' (2006). In January 2005, he released his debut solo album, ''On Ken's Time''. Cyndi Wang Hsin-ling (; born 5 September 1982) is a Taiwanese singer and actress. Wang debuted her musical career as she released her debut album, ''Begin...'' (2003). Besides her musical career, Wang has starred in many TV dramas, including ''The Car Is In Pursuit'' (2000), ''Westside Story'' (2003), ''Heaven's Wedding Gown'' (2004), and ''Smiling Pasta'' (2006). Mandopop
Mandopop or Mandapop refers to Standard Chinese, Mandarin popular music. The genre has its origin in the jazz-influenced popular music of 1930s Shanghai known as Shidaiqu; with later influences coming from Japanese enka, Hong Kong's Cantopop, Taiwan's Hokkien pop, and in particular the School campus song, Campus Song folk movement of the 1970s. 'Mandopop' may be used as a general term to describe popular songs performed in Mandarin. Though Mandopop predates Cantopop, the English term was coined around 1980 after "Cantopop" became a popular term for describing popular songs in Cantonese. Jiro Wang (; born 24 August 1981) is a Taiwanese singer and actor, who started his career as a model. Wang is a member of Taiwanese Mandopop vocal quartet boy band Fahrenheit. Life Jiro Wang was born August 24, 1981, in Taiwan. He graduated from Fu Shin Trade and Arts College with a degree in Advertising Design.
