"OK Fred" is a song by Jamaican singer-songwriter John Holt. It was first released as a single in 1971. Background Errol Dunkley stated that the song is about an up-town girl who falls for a down-town guy who is a non-conformist in the way he dresses and wants to become care-free like him. Jamaican parents might tell their unkempt children, "Fix up youself, put you shirt in you trousers, you look like a yaga yaga" ic AllMusic gave a different version, saying the song describes the singer's prowess and technique with the opposite sex. The song is considered a cross over hit due to being by a Jamaican artist but appealing to a white audience. Holt's version features Vin Gordon on trombone. It was produced by Coxsone Dodd. Errol Dunkley
Errol Dunkley (born 6 February 1951), sometimes spelled Erroll Dunkley, is a Jamaican reggae musician, born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1951. Biography Dunkley's recording career began in 1965, when he was 14, with "Gypsy" (a duet with Roy Shirley) for Linden Pottinger's Gaydisc label, "My Queen" (with Junior English) for Prince Buster, and "Love Me Forever" on the Rio label. From 1967 to 1968, he recorded several singles for Joe Gibbs, including "Please Stop Your Lying" (1967) and "Love Brother" (1968), before switching to Coxsone Dodd in 1969. In the early 1970s, with Gregory Isaacs, he formed the African Museum record label. Isaacs soon took sole control of the label, and Dunkley formed Silver Ring, a new label. In 1972, he teamed up with producer Jimmy Radway for two of his most popular singles, "Keep the Pressure Down" and "Black Cinderella". John Kenneth Holt CD (11 July 1947 – 19 October 2014) was a Jamaican reggae singer who first found fame as a member of The Paragons, before establishing himself as a solo artist. Crossover is a term applied to musical works or performers who appeal to different types of audience. This can be seen, for example, (especially in the United States) when a song appears on two or more of the record charts which track differing musical styles or genres. If the second chart combines genres, such as a " Hot 100" list, the work is not a ''crossover''. Vin Gordon
Vin Gordon (a.k.a. Trommie, Don D. Junior or Don Drummond Jr) (born 4 August 1949) is a Jamaican trombone player. Biography Gordon grew up in Jones Town, Kingston, Jamaica as one of eight children. He went to Kingston's Catholic Alpha Boys School, where he learned to play trombone and string bass. He began his career in 1964 with The Skatalites. He became the main trombonist of Studio One and he recorded for all major producers of Jamaican music in ska, rocksteady and reggae. At Studio One Gordon met Lee Perry and played with many reggae artists during the rock steady years. He played on records by B.B. Seaton, The Heptones, Bob Andy and Keith Hudson. From 1965 to 1978 he was Bob Marley's trombonist and performed on albums such as ''Kaya'' and ''Exodus''. Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora.
