OH Ranch
The OH Ranch, OH Ranch Heritage Rangelands, Orville Hawkins Ranch or Rio Alto Ranch is a historic ranch founded in 1883 and is located near Longview, Alberta. The ranch actually consists of two separate parcels of land and also of the OH Pekisko, OH Longview, OH Dorothy, and OH Bassano ranches. Both parcels of land include both private and public land with the public land leased to OH Ranch Ltd. (the corporation that manages the ranch) for grazing. The approximate coordinates of the southern section of the ranch are 50.565065, -114.354775. History The ranch's origins date back to 1881 when a man named Orville Hawkins Smith, a mule skinner, and Lafayette French, a buffalo hunter, began to raise cattle illegally around the Highwood River. North-West Mounted Police
The North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) was a Canadian para-military police force, established in 1873, to maintain order in the new Canadian North-West Territories (NWT) following the 1870 transfer of Rupert’s Land and North-Western Territory to Canada from the Hudson’s Bay Company, the Red River Rebellion and in response to lawlessness, demonstrated by the subsequent Cypress Hills Massacre and fears of United States military intervention. The NWMP combined military, police and judicial functions along similar lines to the Royal Irish Constabulary. A small, mobile police force was chosen to reduce potential for tensions with the United States and First Nations in Canada, First Nations. Calgary Stampede
The Calgary Stampede is an annual rodeo, exhibition, and festival held every July in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The ten-day event, which bills itself as "The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth", attracts over one million visitors per year and features one of the world's largest rodeos, a parade, midway, stage shows, concerts, agricultural competitions, chuckwagon racing, and First Nations exhibitions. Bill Siebens
William Walter "Bill" Siebens (17 November 1933 – 29 June 2020) was an American-Canadian oilman. He is best known as the founder and president of Siebens Oil and Gas Limited, a company that operated from 1965 until its sale in 1978. Biography William Walter Siebens was born in St. Louis, Missouri on 17 November 1933 to Dr. Harold Walter Siebens and Vera Wolf. He had two sisters, Nancy and Mary Jane, and a brother, Stewart. Daryl Kenneth "Doc" Seaman (28 April 1922 – 11 January 2009) was a Canadian oilman and hockey executive. Seaman was the founder, president, and chairman of Bow Valley Industries Limited, which was one of Canada's largest independent petroleum companies. Cowboy
A cowboy is an animal herder who tends cattle on ranches in North America, traditionally on horseback, and often performs a multitude of other ranch-related tasks. Patrick Burns (businessman)
Patrick Burns (July 6, 1856 – February 24, 1937) was a Canadian rancher, meat packer, businessperson, senator, and philanthropist. A self-made man of wealth, he built one of the world's largest integrated meat-packing empires, P. Burns & Co., becoming one of the wealthiest Canadians of his time. He is honoured as one of the Big Four western cattle kings who started the Calgary Stampede in Alberta in 1912. He made his fortune in the meat industry, but ranching was his true passion. Burns' of cattle ranches covered so vast an area of Southern Alberta that he boasted about being able to travel from Cochrane to the US border without ever leaving his land.
