O. P. Sharma (photographer)
O. P. Sharma (born 1937) is an Indian photographer based in Delhi. He heads the photography department of Triveni Kala Sangam. Earlier, he taught photography at Modern School for many years. His works have been widely exhibited in India as well as other countries. He is the recipient of many awards and honours, and is credited with mobilising the international photography community to observe 19 August as World Photography Day. Early life O. P. Sharma was born in 1937 in Agra, British India, and grew up in the city. He studied at Christian College, Lucknow, and obtained a Bachelor's degree in science from Lucknow University. It was in Lucknow that he discovered his calling as a photographer. The head of the department of Physics, Lucknow University, placed the darkroom at his disposal. Rajiv Gandhi (; 20 August 1944 – 21 May 1991) was an Indian politician who served as the sixth prime minister of India from 1984 to 1989. He took office after the 1984 assassination of his mother, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, to become the youngest Indian Prime minister at the age of 40. Gandhi was from the politically powerful Nehru–Gandhi family, which had been associated with the Indian National Congress party. For much of his childhood, his maternal grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru was prime minister. Gandhi attended college at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain, commonly known as the Royal Photographic Society (RPS), is one of the world's oldest photographic societies. It was founded in London, England, in 1853 as the Photographic Society of London with the objective of promoting the art and science of photography, and in 1853 received Monarchy of the United Kingdom, royal patronage from Queen Victoria and Albert, Prince Consort, Prince Albert. A change to the society's name to reflect the patronage was, however, not considered expedient at the time. In 1874, it was renamed the Photographic Society of Great Britain, and only from 1894 did it become known as the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain, a title which it continues to use today.
