Nynäshamn Station
Nynäshamn is a station on Stockholm's commuter train network, located in Nynäshamn within Nynäshamn Municipality and is the terminus for the Nynäs Line. On a normal winter weekday, the station has about 900 boarders (2015). The station has three tracks, which end with stop buffers. Entrance to the platform is geographically from the north (the track runs in a half loop through the city and ends in the "wrong" direction). The station no longer has an entrance building or ticket hall, but has weather protection on the platform. Nynäshamn is used as a transfer to the Destination Gotland ferries to the island of Gotland. Stockholm commuter rail ( sv, Stockholms pendeltåg) is the commuter rail system in Stockholm County, Sweden. The system is an important part of the public transport in Stockholm, and is controlled by Storstockholms Lokaltrafik. The tracks are state-owned and administered by the Swedish Transport Administration, while the operation of the Stockholm commuter rail services itself has been contracted to MTR Nordic since December 2016. Nynäshamn
Nynäshamn is a locality and the seat of Nynäshamn Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden with 13,510 inhabitants in 2010. While interest in the area as a potentially useful port grew from the mid 19th Century, it was only with the opening of the railway station to Stockholm in 1901 that Nynäshamn started to develop. During the early 20th Century, Nynäshamn also became well known as a spa town, though most such facilities were closed down before the end of World War I. Nynäshamn Municipality
Nynäshamn Municipality (''Nynäshamns kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Nynäshamn. In 1974 the former ''City of Nynäshamn'' (itself instituted in 1946) was merged with ''Ösmo'', from which it had been detached as a market town (''köping'') in 1911 and ''Sorunda'', all in the Södertörn peninsula and adjacent islands. Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, or more formally Aktiebolaget Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (Greater Stockholm Local Transit Company), is the organisation running all of the land based public transport systems in Stockholm County. It was previously known as Stockholms Lokaltrafik and is commonly referred to as SL. History SL has its origins in AB Stockholms Spårvägar (SS), a city-owned public transit company which started in 1915 by the City of Stockholm with the aim to deprivatize the two separate private tramway networks into one more efficient company. Nynäs Line
The Nynäs Line ( sv, Nynäsbanan) is a long railway line between Älvsjö and Nynäshamn in Sweden. The line is electrified and is double track on the section from Älvsjö to Västerhaninge. The line is used by the Stockholm Commuter Rail and freight trains. At Älvsjö, it connects to the Western Main Line. At Farsta strand there is a connection to Farsta strand metro station, which is a terminus at the Stockholm underground railway. At Nynäshamn there is transfer to the Destination Gotland ferries to the island of Gotland. History Nynäshamn was established as a port during the 1860s, to allow ships to avoid the skerries surrounding Stockholm. Stockholm Central Station ( sv, Stockholms centralstation) is a railway station in Stockholm, Sweden. It is situated in the district of Norrmalm at Vasagatan/Central Plan. The station opened on 18 July 1871 and it had over 200,000 visitors daily, of which about 170,000 were travellers (105,000 with commuter trains, 25,000 with Arlanda Express and 40,000 with other trains), until 10 July 2017 when the local commuter trains started to call at the Stockholm City Station which is located under the central station. Ferdinand Boberg
Gustaf Ferdinand Boberg (11 April 1860 – 7 May 1946) was a Swedish architect. Biography Boberg was born in Falun. He became one of the most productive and prominent architects of Stockholm around the turn of the 20th century. Among his most famous work is an electrical plant at Björns Trädgård in Stockholm, that was inspired by Middle Eastern architecture. The building was converted in the late nineties and is now the Stockholm Mosque. He also designed Nordiska Kompaniet, the most prominent department store in Stockholm and Rosenbad which today houses the Swedish government chancellery. After retiring as an architect in 1915, Boberg and his wife Anna traveled around Sweden with the aim of preserving the cultural heritage through a book of drawings. Destination Gotland
Destination Gotland is a Swedish ferry-line that runs state-subsidised domestic ferries from Nynäshamn and Oskarshamn to Visby on the island of Gotland. It is a wholly owned daughter company of Rederi AB Gotland. The fleet consists of four high-speed Ro-Pax ferries. The transport volumes to the island of Gotland is more than 1.4 million passengers and 640,000 lane meters of freight per year. During the high season the frequency is up to 16 departures per day to between the mainland of Sweden and the island of Gotland.
