Nye, Montana
Nye is an unincorporated community in Stillwater County, Montana, Stillwater County, Montana, United States. As of 2010 United States Census, 2010, the population was 272. Demographics History Originally a copper mining camp, the town sprang into existence when Jack Nye and the Hedges brothers staked their claim. Mining continues to be an important part of the area's economy. Nye's first post office was established on October 6, 1887, with Thomas Ross as its first postmaster. The post office is a contract post office and serves a large land area including all residents beyond the building at 2027 Nye Road (Carters Camp). The Minnesota Mining and Smelting Company built a copper smelter here in 1889, but it was shut down when it was discovered that they were illegally on the Crow Indian Reservation. The Stillwater River is a tributary of the Yellowstone River. Approximately 70 miles (113 km) long, it runs through southern Montana in the United States. 2022 Montana Floods
In June 2022, the U.S. state of Montana was hit by heavy, damaging floods in multiple major Drainage basin, watersheds including the Yellowstone River. Heavy rain and melting snow over the weekend June 10–13 caused large areas of Yellowstone National Park to be evacuated. On June 14, the water plant in Billings, Montana, Billings was temporarily shut down. Many houses were damaged as a result, and a number of roads and bridges were destroyed by floodwaters. Crow Indian Reservation
The Crow Indian Reservation is the homeland of the Crow Tribe. Established 1868, the reservation is located in parts of Big Horn, Yellowstone, and Treasure counties in southern Montana in the United States. The Crow Tribe has an enrolled membership of approximately 11,000, of whom 7,900 reside in the reservation. 20% speak Crow as their first language. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
