Ny Vestergade
Ny Vestergade ( lit. English: New West Street) is a street in central Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs from Frederiksholms Kanal to Vester Voldgade and together with Christiansborg's riding grounds, Marble Bridge and Dantes Plads forms an axis between Christiansborg's tower in the east and Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek's dome in the west. The National Museum's main entrance is located in the street. History Ny Vestergade is one of the streets that was created when the Frederiksholm neighbourhood was established in the 1660s. It is referred to as ''Den Nye Vestergade'' ("The New West Street") in 1665 but was long more commonly called Wigandts Gade after wine trader and ship owner Wigand Michelbecker (1636-1692), who owned a property where National Museum is now located. Ny Vestergade 9
Ny Vestergade 9 is an 18th-century building located across the street from the main entrance to the National Museum in central Copenhagen, Denmark. Former owners include court painter Hendrick Krock, printmaker Hans Qvist, Royal Armourer Christian Kyhl and wholesaler Jacob Stilling-Andersen. The building was listed in the Danish Registry of Protected Buildings and Places in 1932. History 17th century The area was not reclaimed until the 1660s. Thomas Oxe, a merchant, was from 1689 the owner of two adjacent houses at the site. They contained a total of four tenancies. The house to the left (now No. 9) was upon his death in 1799 by his widow sold to Christian Siegfred von Plessen (1646-1723) who later that same year sold it to Jens Sørensen Kuur. Louise Rasmussen
Louise Christine Rasmussen, also known as ''Countess Danner'' (21 April 1815 – 6 March 1874), was a Danish ballet dancer and stage actor. She was the mistress and later the morganatic spouse of King Frederick VII of Denmark. She was not a queen consort, but officially styled Countess Danner. Biography Louise Rasmussen was the daughter of the unmarried maid Juliane Caroline Rasmussen and the merchant Gotthilf L. Køppen. She was a student of the ballet school of the Opera in Copenhagen in 1826, was contracted in 1830 and a figurante ballerina in 1835. In 1841, she had a child with the print maker Carl Berling, who was the heir of the paper ''Berlingske Tidende'', one of the most important Danish newspapers. She retired from the ballet in 1842 and opened a fashion shop. She got to know Crown Prince Frederick through Berling in the 1830s and had a relationship with him during the 1840s. Constantin Hansen
Carl Christian Constantin Hansen (Constantin Hansen) (3 November 1804 – 29 March 1880) was one of the painters associated with the Golden Age of Danish Painting. He was deeply interested in literature and mythology, and inspired by art historian Niels Laurits Høyen, he tried to recreate a national historical painting based on Norse mythology. He painted also many altarpieces and portraits, including the monumental oil painting '' The Danish Constituent Assembly'' (''Den grundlovgivende Rigsforsamling'') between 1861 and 1865. Georg Hilker
Georg Hilker (5 June 1807 – 13 January 1875) was a Danish decorative painter active during the Danish Golden Age in the first half of the 19th century. He collaborated with painter Constantin Hansen (1804–1880). Early life and career Hilker was born to navigator Christian Hilker and Marie Margrethe (née Vest) and Christian Hilker, a shipmaster who later served as a customs officer. At the age of 13, he enrolled at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. After first training in landscape painting and winning two silver medals at the model school, Hilker turned to decorative painting. While still a student, he participated in decorating the residence of Hermann Ernst Freund (1786–1840), an Academy professor of sculpture, in the former Supply Building on Slotsholmen. Caspar Frederik Harsdorff
Caspar Frederik (Friedrich) Harsdorff, also known as C.F. Harsdorff, (26 May 1735 – 24 May 1799) was a Danish neoclassical architect considered to have been the leading Danish architect in the late 18th century. Early life and training He was born Caspar Frederik Harsdørffer in Copenhagen, Denmark to German-born schoolteacher Johan Christopher Harsdørffer from Nürnberg and his Swedish-born wife Anne Marie Eriksdatter. He began his education in mathematics in order to train for the Engineer Corps, but his interest lay in architecture, which he studied enthusiastically. When the Royal Danish Academy of Art (''Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi'') opened in 1754 at Charlottenborg Palace he was able to study under French architect Nicolas-Henri Jardin. August Krogh
Schack August Steenberg Krogh (15 November 1874 – 13 September 1949) was a Danish professor at the department of zoophysiology at the University of Copenhagen from 1916 to 1945. He contributed a number of fundamental discoveries within several fields of physiology, and is famous for developing the Krogh Principle. In 1920 August Krogh was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of the mechanism of regulation of the capillaries in skeletal muscle. Krogh was first to describe the adaptation of blood perfusion in muscle and other organs according to demands through opening and closing the arterioles and capillaries. Johan Henrik Nebelong
Johan Henrik Nebelong (20 July 1817 – 2 March 1871) was a Danish architect. He worked in Norway from 1840 to 1853 and was best known for interior design work on ''Oscarshall'' (1847–1852). Nebelong also taught at the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen. Biography He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was the son of Johan Henrik Nebelong and Anna Christine Schreyber and was a younger brother of architect Niels Sigfried Nebelong. Nebelong was a student of Professor Gustav Friedrich Hetsch in Copenhagen. He later enrolled at the Royal Academy of Arts. At the Academy, he won the prestigious silver medal in 1839.
