Noxubee County High School
Noxubee County High School is the only public secondary school in Noxubee County, Mississippi. It is located at 16478 Hwy 45 in Macon, Mississippi. Its attendance boundary is all of Noxubee County. Athletics The Noxubee County High School football and basketball teams compete in District 4A. Their mascot is the tiger. The football team won the 2009 and 2012 State Championship. They repeated as champions in 2014 and 2015. The Noxubee High School Tigers girls basketball team won back to back state titles in 1993-94. Demographics As of the 2015 school year, there were 563 students, 99% (558) of whom were black, 3 of whom were Hispanic, and 2 of whom were white. Macon, Mississippi
Macon is a city in Noxubee County, Mississippi along the Noxubee River. The population was 2,768 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Noxubee County. History In 1817, Jackson's Military Road was built at the urging of Andrew Jackson to provide a direct connection between Nashville and New Orleans. The road crossed the Noxubee River just west of Macon, located at the old Choctaw village of Taladega, now the site of the local golf club. The road declined in importance in the 1840s, largely due to the difficulty of travel in the swamps surrounding the Noxubee River in and west of Macon. The route for the most part was replaced by the Robinson Road, which ran through Agency and Louisville before joining the Natchez Trace, bypassing Macon. Jackson State Tigers Football
The Jackson State Tigers football team represents Jackson State University in college football at the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level as a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). After joining the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in 1958, the program exploded into national prominence. In the 1980s, the program enjoyed its greatest success. Under head coach W. C. Gorden, the Tigers won eight conference championships between 1980 and 1990, including four straight from 1985 to 1988. Since 1958, Jackson State has won about 25 percent of the conference's football championships (18) and is a perennial powerhouse program among HBCUs. Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans are a professional American football team based in Nashville, Tennessee. The Titans compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division, and play their home games at Nissan Stadium. Deontae Skinner (born December 18, 1990) is a former American football linebacker. He played college football at Mississippi State and attended Noxubee County High School in Macon, Mississippi. He has played for the New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants. Early years Skinner played high school football at Noxubee County High School. He was named First-team All-State for his accomplishments during his senior year, recording 134 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 11 of which were sacks, and two forced fumbles. Freddie Joe Nunn (April 9, 1962 October 16, 2021) was an American former professional football player who was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1st round (18th overall) of the 1985 NFL Draft. He started his career as a defensive end and later moved to the linebacker position. He played for the Cardinals organization from 1985 to 1993, and for the Indianapolis Colts from 1994 to 1996. Darion Conner (born September 28, 1967, in Macon, Mississippi) is a former American / arena football linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) and the Arena Football League (AFL). He played for eight seasons in the NFL, from 1990 to 1997 and seven seasons (1999–2005) in the AFL. He was drafted in the second round (27th overall) of the 1990 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons.
