New Glasgow, Nova Scotia
New Glasgow is a town in Pictou County, in the province of Nova Scotia, Canada. It is situated on the banks of the East River of Pictou, which flows into Pictou Harbour, a sub-basin of the Northumberland Strait. The town's population was 9,075 in the 2016 census. New Glasgow is at the centre of the province's fourth largest urban area; the population of the New Glasgow census agglomeration in the 2016 census was 34,487. The New Glasgow census agglomeration includes the smaller adjacent towns of Stellarton, Westville, and Trenton as well as adjacent rural areas of the county. 2017 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament Of Hearts
The 2017 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the provincial women's curling championship of Nova Scotia, was held from January 24 to 29 at the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax. The winning Mary Mattatall team represented Nova Scotia at the 2017 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in St. Catharines, Ontario. The winning Mattatall rink were all senior-aged, with all members of the team being over 50 years old. Mattatall won her sixth provincial title of her career, and her first since 2005 when she played third for Kay Zinck. Third Andrea Saulnier and second Jill Alcoe-Holland had both won provincial seniors titles in 2010 and lead Marg Cutcliffe won the provincial masters championship in 2016 for curlers over 60. Nancy McConnery
Nancy McConnery (born Nancy Horne on February 26, 1963) is a Canadian curler from Blockhouse, Nova Scotia. She currently skips her own team out of the Windsor Curling Club in Windsor, Nova Scotia. McConnery has represented both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Her first Scott appearance was in 1993 representing New Brunswick. McConnery skipped her team which included Sandy Comeau. They would finish 2-9 in round robin play. She would once again return to the Scott in 1995 this time playing second for Heidi Hanlon, and would finish 4-7 in round robin play. McConnery’s next appearance would be in 2003 where she skipped her own team, this time representing Nova Scotia. She would finish round robin play 5-6, her best showing at the Tournament of Hearts to date. Heather Smith (curler)
Heather Smith (born September 21, 1972 in Sackville, New Brunswick) is a Canadian curler from Fall River, Nova Scotia. While married to Brier champion Mark Dacey, she was known as Heather Smith-Dacey. She is currently the alternate on Team Andrea Kelly. Career 1990–2000 Smith grew up in Sackville, New Brunswick. She won two provincial junior championships, in 1990 as a third for Krista Smith and in 1991 as a skip. At the 1990 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, the team finished with a 5-5 record in 5th place. However, Smith-Dacey won the 1991 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. After the round robin, the team finished third with an 8-3 record. However, the team won both the semifinal match against Alberta's Tara Brandt and then in the final against Manitoba's Jill Staub. It would be the first Women's junior title for New Brunswick.
