Nottingham Panthers
The Nottingham Panthers are a British professional ice hockey club based in Nottingham, England. They are members of the Elite Ice Hockey League. Their main team sponsor is the Nottingham Building Society. The Nottingham Panthers have won four league titles (two English National League titles, one British National League title and one Elite Ice Hockey League title), five Championships, six Autumn Cups and eight Challenge Cups during their history. The Panthers are the only British team to win European club honours with one Continental Cup. They are the only team to have played in every season where a British league championship has been contested and are the only founding member of the Premier Division in 1983 to have continually participated in the top flight league. Great Britain National Ice Hockey Team
The Great Britain men's national ice hockey team (also known as Team GB) is the national ice hockey team that represents the United Kingdom. A founding member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) in 1908, the team is controlled by Ice Hockey UK. Great Britain is currently ranked 18th in the world by the IIHF as of March 2022 according to the IIHF World Ranking. Les Strongman
Les Strongman (23 August 1924 – 8 August 2019) was a Canadian ice hockey player. He was born in Winnipeg. Strongman played professional hockey in Europe between 1946 and 1968 with Malmo FF (Sweden), Zurich SC (Switzerland) and British National League teams Nottingham Panthers and Wembley Lions. Forward (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, a forward is a player, and a position on the ice, whose primary responsibility is to score and assist goals. Generally, the forwards try to stay in three different lanes of the ice going from goal to goal. It is not mandatory, however, to stay in a lane. Staying in a lane aids in forming the common offensive strategy known as a triangle. One forward obtains the puck and then the forwards pass it between themselves making the goalie move side to side. This strategy opens up the net for scoring opportunities. This strategy allows for a constant flow of the play, attempting to maintain the control of play by one team in the offensive zone. The forwards can pass to the defence players playing at the blue line, thus freeing up the play and allowing either a shot from the point (blue line position where the defence stands) or a pass back to the offence. Archibald Stinchcombe
Archibald Stinchcombe (17 November 1912 – 3 November 1994) was an British ice hockey player from Cudworth, South Yorkshire, Cudworth near Barnsley, Yorkshire. The right-winger is best known for representing Great Britain men's national ice hockey team, Great Britain at the international level, including at the 1936 Winter Olympics, 1936 and 1948 Winter Olympics. Stinchcombe was somewhat of a novelty among hockey players in that his vision was limited - he could only see out of one eye, and yet was able to enjoy an extremely successful career. Career Stinchcombe's first appearance in British hockey was playing for Streatham in 1935. In his rookie season, he was selected as an All-Star. Alexander Albert Archer (1 May 1908 – 15 June 1979) was an ice hockey right winger who played in the English National League for the Wembley Lions. Wembley Monarchs
The Wembley Monarchs were an ice hockey team in the United Kingdom. They were founded in 1929 as the Grosvenor House Canadians, transferred to Wembley Canadians for the 1934–35 season and became the Monarchs in 1936. The team played in the English League 1931–35, 1936–37 and in the English National League 1935–36, 1937–50. The Grosvenor House Canadians played their home matches at the Park Lane Rink but from 1934 the Empire Pool in Wembley Park, London, (now the SSE Arena) was the home ice for the Canadians/Monarchs (which they shared with the Wembley Lions). Foreign players faced heavy fines and deportation if found to have engaged in on-ice violence or unsportsmanlike conduct, so bar brawls and fights in the locker rooms with opposing players after games were far from uncommon. Nottingham city centre is the cultural, commercial, financial and historical heart of Nottingham, England. Nottingham's city centre represents the central area of the Greater Nottingham conurbation. The centre of the city is usually defined as the Old Market Square, one of the largest surviving town squares in the United Kingdom. The Sheffield Steelers are a professional ice hockey team located in Sheffield, England. They were formed in 1991 (see 1991 in sport) and play their home games at the Utilita Arena. They are currently a member of the Elite Ice Hockey League. The club's main (title) sponsor is Sheffield Window Centre. Nottingham Ice Stadium
The Nottingham Ice Stadium was an ice rink in Nottingham, England from 1939 to 2000. It had a seating capacity of 2800 for Ice hockey games. The building was first opened in 1939 but it was quickly called upon for other purposes. Throughout World War II, the Ice Stadium acted as a store for guns, bullets and other ammunition produced at the nearby Royal Ordnance Factory, ROF Nottingham. When the war ended, the building soon returned to being a recreational and ice sports building. A year after the end of the war, the Ice Stadium became the home of the Nottingham Panthers ice hockey team, who would use the facility until it closed, albeit with a twenty-year break. When the Panthers disbanded in 1960, the Ice Stadium continued to be used for ice skating and some other ice sports.
