Norton High School (Ohio)
Norton High School is a public high school in Norton, Ohio, United States, and the only high school in the Norton City School District. Athletic teams are known as the Panthers with school colors of red and white (also can be black). They are one of the 8 schools who compete in the Metro Athletic Conference. The building opened in January 2017, replacing the previous home of Norton High School, built in 1953. The former high school building was re-purposed as Norton Middle School. The campus includes athletic fields and a multi-purpose stadium, which opened in September 2015. The stadium has an artificial surface for football and soccer and an eight-lane all-weather track. Norton, Ohio
Norton is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 12,085 at the 2010 census and 11,996 at the 2019 estimate. All but a small portion of the city is in Summit County and is part of the Akron metropolitan area; a part extends into Wayne County and the Wooster Micropolitan Statistical Area. History In 1818, Norton Township was organized. It was originally a part of Wolf Creek Township which consisted of present-day Norton, Copley, Wadsworth, Sharon, Guilford, and Montville townships. Norton Township was surveyed by Joseph Darrow and plotted into lots half a mile square. Norton was known as Town 1, Range 12 of the Western Reserve. It was named after Birdseye Norton, one of the original owners of the township. The first two people to settle on this land, in 1810, were James Robinson and John Cahow. Metro Athletic Conference (Ohio)
The Metro Athletic Conference is an association of eight high schools and their associated middle/junior high schools located in the northeast region of the U.S. state of Ohio. Four member schools are in Summit County, three are in Portage County, and one in Medina County. The league was formed in 2019 and began competition in 2020, comprising all eight members of the former Portage Trail Conference Metro Division. The initial opening of conference play for many sports was put in jeopardy from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with golf being the only sport to begin interscholastic at the outset in early August 2020. Later in August, it was announced by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine that all sports were allowed to compete under special guidelines outlined by the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA).
