The Northwest Territories Scotties Tournament of Hearts is the women's territorial championship for women's curling in the Northwest Territories. Hay River, Northwest Territories
Hay River (South Slavey: ''Xátł’odehchee'' ), known as "the Hub of the North," is a town in the Northwest Territories, Canada, located on the south shore of Great Slave Lake, at the mouth of the Hay River. The town is separated into two sections, a new town and an old town with the Hay River/Merlyn Carter Airport between them. The town is in the South Slave Region, and along with Fort Smith, the town is home to one of the two regional offices. History The area has been in use by First Nations, known as the Long Spear people, as far back as 7000 BC. The 2022 Northwest Territories Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the women's territorial curling championship for the Northwest Territories, was scheduled to be held January 5 to 9 at the Inuvik Curling Club in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. The winning team was to represent Northwest Territories at the 2022 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Following new COVID-19 health orders in the Northwest Territories, the event was cancelled on January 4, 2022. That same day, it was announced that Team Kerry Galusha would represent the Northwest Territories at the 2022 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Megan Cormier
Megan Koehler (born July 18, 1989 in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories as Megan Cormier) is a Canadian curler. She is currently the alternate for the Kerry Galusha rink out of the Yellowknife Curling Club in Yellowknife. Career Juniors Koehler made her National curling debut at the 2007 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. She skipped her own team, representing the Northwest Territories. Koehler and team would have a very difficult time at the event, failing to win a single game, finishing round robin with a 0-12 record. This would be Koehler's only trip to the junior championships. 2010–current In 2010 Koehler would team up with her mother Sharon Cormier and would enter the 2010 Yukon/NWT Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Brittany Tran (born March 8, 1993, in Red Deer, Alberta) is a Canadian curler from Calgary. She currently plays third on Team Kayla Skrlik. Career Juniors As a junior, Tran played third for Team Jocelyn Peterman, playing with her since 2003. They represented Alberta at the 2011 Canada Winter Games, where they won a silver medal. In 2012, the team won the Alberta junior championships and represented Alberta at the 2012 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, which they won. They represented Canada at the 2012 World Junior Curling Championships, losing in a tiebreaker. The 2019 Northwest Territories Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the territorial women's curling championship for Northwest Territories, was held January 10–11 at the Yellowknife Curling Centre in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Only two teams entered the event, the defending champion Kerry Galusha rink from Yellowknife and the 2019 territorial junior champion Tyanna Bain rink from Inuvik. As such, the event was a best-of-five series. Galusha easily beat the Bain rink in three games. The 2020 Northwest Territories Women's Curling Championship, the women's provincial curling championship for the Northwest Territories, was held from January 9 to 12 at the Hay River Curling Club in Hay River, Northwest Territories. The winning Kerry Galusha rink represented the Northwest Territories at the 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and finished with a 2–5 record. Shona Barbour (born July 4, 1979) is a Canadian curler from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. She currently coaches the Kerry Galusha rink out of the Yellowknife Curling Centre in Yellowknife. Career Juniors Barbour made her first national debut at the 1995 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, playing second stones for Tara Hamer. The team ended up finishing round robin with a 3–8 record. In 1996 Barbour returned to the juniors once more, this time throwing third stones for Kerry Koe. The team finished round robin with a 5–7 record. Barbour made her final junior appearance in 1998, playing third for Koe, and again failed to make the playoffs, finishing round robin with a 2–10 record. 2005–2009 It was not until 2005 that Barbour return to national stage.
