Northwest Kansas Technical College
Northwest Kansas Technical College is a public technical college in Goodland, Kansas, United States. The college offers 14 different programs ranging from diesel technology to medical assistant. The college also offers certificates and associate degrees. History The college began in 1964 as the Northwest Kansas Vocational School. Athletics Northwest Kansas Tech is the only technical school in Kansas with an athletic program. It is a member of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. Men's and women's basketball, men's and women's wrestling, softball, track and field, cross-country and shooting sports are currently offered. The Mavericks usually hold their events at facilities owned by Goodland High School. Goodland, Kansas
Goodland is a city in and the county seat of Sherman County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 4,465. It was named after Goodland, Indiana. Goodland is home to Northwest Kansas Technical College. History One of the earliest pieces of recorded history relating to Goodland concerns the Kidder Massacre. On July 2, 1867, a detachment of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment (United States) was massacred; second lieutenant Lyman S. Kidder in command of the party, a sergeant, a corporal, eight privates and an Indian guide lost their lives. They were carrying dispatches for Lieutenant Colonel George Custer. Later, Custer found evidence of a running battle along Beaver Creek, which led to a ravine where the remains were found. They had been killed by Cheyenne and/or Sioux Indians. Kansas () is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita. Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference
The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) is a college athletic conference that is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). As of 2007, the KJCCC was home to more than 3,000 student-athletes in the 19 men's and women's sports. The conference's name comes from " Jayhawk" which is a term used for people born in the state of Kansas, where all of the conference's schools are located. The term Jayhawk, however, originated with a group of guerrillas during the American Civil War. Members All KJCCC schools compete in Division I football, wrestling, track and field and cross country. Hesston is the only member that competes in Division II baseball. Independence is the only member that does not field a baseball team.
