North Metropolitan Province
The North Metropolitan Province was a two-member electoral province of the Western Australian Legislative Council, located in metropolitan Perth. It was one of several metropolitan seats created following the enactment of the ''Constitution Acts Amendment Act (No.2) 1963'', and became effective on 22 May 1965. At each election, held every three years, one of the two seats was vacated, and the trend in North Metropolitan reflected statewide trends and swings rather than being safe for either of the major parties. In 1989, the province was abolished by the ''Acts Amendment (Electoral Reform) Act 1987'', and with two others became part of the North Metropolitan Region under the new proportional voting system. Whitford was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia from 1977 to 1996. History The district was based in the northern suburbs of Perth and was created first contested at the 1977 state election. Graham Edwards (politician)
Graham John Edwards AM (born 18 July 1946) is an Australian soldier, veterans' advocate and Labor Party member who represented the electorate of Cowan in the Australian House of Representatives from 1998 to 2007. He was born in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, and voluntarily joined the Australian Army for service in the Vietnam War in 1968. On 12 May 1970, he was severely injured, losing both legs. After leaving the Army he joined the Department of Defence as an officer with the Vietnam Veterans' Counselling Service. He was elected to the Council of the City of Stirling in 1981. Peter Wells (politician)
Peter Henry Wells (22 October 1937 – 25 December 2005) was an Australian politician. He was born in St Arnaud in Victoria to railway employee Harry Stevens Wells and Alice Rebecca Eileen Blackman Lingwood. In 1955 he became a minister and welfare worker with the Salvation Army in Western Australia, and in 1960 became a draftsman and sampler with Central Norseman Gold Mines. On 4 February 1961 he married Dorothy Eva Clarke, with whom he had three children. He also worked as a part-time lecturer in cartography at mining schools in Norseman and Kalgoorlie. From 1970 he was chief exploration draftsman for International Nickel Australia. Wells was an active member of the Liberal Party in Western Australia, serving as president of the Stirling division of the party from 1976. Roy Claughton
Roy Frederick Claughton (14 August 1927 – 26 April 2012) was an Australian politician who served as a Labor Party member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1968 to 1980, representing North Metropolitan Province. Claughton was born in Perth to Mabel Alice (née Parker) and James Edward Frederick Claughton. He attended the Perth Boys School before going on to study teaching at the University of Western Australia and Claremont Teachers College. Before entering politics, he worked as a primary school teacher, both in Perth and at country schools. Sir Arthur Frederick Griffith (22 April 1913 – 17 November 1982) was an Australian politician, and a member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 1950 until 1953 representing the seat of Canning, and a member of the Western Australian Legislative Council representing the Suburban and North Metropolitan provinces from 1953 until 1977. He served as President of the Legislative Council from May 1974 until May 1977. Joondalup is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. The district is located in the northern suburbs of Perth. Joondalup has tended to be a marginal seat. Geography The district lies in Perth's outer north, taking in areas west of Lake Joondalup. Scarborough is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. The district is a coastal electorate based in the northern suburbs of Perth and is named for the suburb of Scarborough.
