North Fremantle Football Club
The North Fremantle Football Club was an Australian rules football club which competed in the West Australian Football League from 1901 to 1915. North Fremantle started out in the First Rate Junior Association, the state's second tier competition. They were premiers in 1897 and four years later were admitted, along with Subiaco, into the Western Australian Football Association (later renamed the West Australian Football League). The West Australian Football League (WAFL) is an Australian rules football league based in Perth, Western Australia. The league currently consists of ten teams, which play each other in a 20-round season usually lasting from March to September, with the top five teams playing off in a finals series, culminating in a Grand Final. The league also runs reserves, colts (under-19) and women's competitions. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Subiaco Football Club
The Subiaco Football Club, nicknamed the Lions and known before 1973 as the ''Maroons'', is an Australian rules football club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW). It was founded in 1896, and admitted to the WAFL in 1901, along with North Fremantle. The club is currently based at Leederville Oval, having previously played at Subiaco Oval. History Subiaco was incorporated in 1896, establishing its base at a small playing arena within the environs of the Shenton Park Lake. The East Fremantle Football Club, nicknamed the Sharks, is an Australian rules football club playing in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW). The team's home ground is East Fremantle Oval. East Fremantle are the most successful club in WAFL history, winning 29 premierships since their entry into the competition in 1898. Bill Bushell
William Joseph 'Joe' Bushell (3 March 1888 – 5 February 1951) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL), Sturt in the South Australian Football League (SAFL) as well as both North Fremantle and Subiaco in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). Bushell, a defender, started his career at North Fremantle. He was part of the Western Australian squad which competed in the 1908 Melbourne Carnival, however he was not selected to play. While away, Bushell was recruited to Sturt by their secretary and he spent 1908 playing with the club, in South Australia. Bill Goddard (footballer)
William George Goddard (24 February 1880 - 26 August 1939) was an Australian rules footballer who played for South Melbourne, Carlton and St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Arthur Goddard (-1884), and Matilda Goddard, née Clark, William George Goddard was born at Corop, Victoria on 24 February 1880. Football WAFL A late-comer to VFL football, Goddard played a game for South Fremantle in 1900 and spent five years at North Fremantle before going to Victoria; and, in June 1903, he was suspended for entering the opposition's change rooms after the match and assaulting one of its players. He had previously visited the eastern state in 1904 when he toured with the Western Australian interstate football team. Sam Gravenall
Samuel Boyd Gravenall (18 July 1885 – 8 March 1948), variously known as "Sam Gravenall" and "Boyd Gravenall", was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Samuel Boyd Gravenall (1862-1941), and Ida Tily Gravenall (1868-1945), née Browne, Samuel Boyd Gravenall was born on 18 July 1885. Phillip Henry Matson (22 October 1884 – 13 June 1928) was a record-breaking swimmer, and both a highly successful player and coach of Australian rules football in the early 20th century, chiefly in Western Australia.
