North Fayette Valley Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in West Union, Iowa. The district is located in sections of Fayette and Clayton counties, and serves West Union, Clermont, Elgin, Fayette, Hawkeye, and Wadena. Elementary schools are located in Elgin and West Union; the middle school is located in Elgin and the high school is located in West Union. The mascot in the Tigerhawks, and the colors are light blue, silver and black. West Union is a city in Fayette County, Iowa, United States. The population was 2,490 at the time of the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Fayette County. History Originally called Knob Prairie, the community was founded by William Wells, naming it for his hometown, also called West Union, in Ohio. Wadena, Iowa
Wadena is a city in Fayette County, Iowa, United States. The population was 209 at the time of the 2020 census. Wadena's electricity is supplied by Alliant Energy. Its land-line phone and DSL internet service is provided by Windstream. Cellular phone service is mainly provided by U.S. Cellular, as they have a tower located just east of town. Wadena is located in a valley and other cellular phone providers have spotty coverage in town. Wadena no longer has a cable television provider. Any cable television services must be obtained through satellite service providers such as Dish Network or DirecTV. Wadena is remembered in Iowa for the Woodstock-like rock festival held on a nearby farm, August 1–3, 1970. Valley Community School District
Valley Community School District was a school district headquartered in Elgin, Iowa. The district was located in sections of Fayette and Clayton counties, and served Elgin, Clermont, and Wadena. History The Valley district and the North Fayette Community School District began a grade-sharing arrangement, in which students of one school district attend another district's schools, in fall 2013. The two districts together had one middle school and one high school. The merger vote for North Fayette and Valley was scheduled for Tuesday February 7, 2017. The North Fayette district residents voted in favor of the merger on a 504–17, or 97% in favor, while the Valley residents voted in favor on a 326-30 basis, or 92% in favor. On July 1, 2018, it merged into the North Fayette district to form the North Fayette Valley Community School District.

Fayette County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 19,509. The county seat is West Union. History Fayette County was founded on December 21, 1837, as a part of Wisconsin Territory. It was named after Gilbert du Motier, marquis de La Fayette, a French general and politician, who came to America in 1777 to fight in the Revolutionary War, and who was named Major General of the Continental Army. The county was formed as part of a large reorganization of Dubuque County, which at that time comprised most of the northern half of Iowa, Minnesota, and parts of the Dakotas.
