North Division One (shinty)
The North Division One (currently known as the 'Mowi North Division 1' for sponsorship reasons) is the third tier of the Shinty league system. League champions are awarded the MacGillivary Cup and play-off against the South Division One champions for promotion to the National Division. Fort William Shinty Club
Fort William Shinty Club is a shinty club from Fort William, Lochaber, Scotland. The club has two sides in the Shinty league system, a first team which was relegated from the Premiership in 2013 and a reserve side in North Division Two. The first team were Camanachd Cup holders four times in succession, between 2007 and 2010, but were knocked out in the second round in 2011. The club also has a vibrant youth system. The club's traditional home is in the heart of the town at An Aird which is an area often under threat from development. However, for much of 2011 and 2012 An Aird was being renovated and the club were tenants at the Black Parks in Inverlochy. History Fort William was officially constituted in 1893 but the club slowly emerged into the sport and only entered the Camanachd Cup in 1912. Premier Division (shinty)
The Premier Division (known as the Mowi Premiership) is the premier division in shinty. Based in Scotland and formed in 1996, the league is the top tier of the Shinty league system. Set-up in order to create a Scotland-wide league for the first time, it constitutes as one of the five trophies considered to be part of the Grand Slam of shinty. The 2018 Marine Harvest Premiership was won by Newtonmore Camanachd Club. Sponsorship From 2009 until 2011, the league was sponsored by Scottish Hydro Electric before the Orion Group took over for the 2012 season. That same year the league was rebranded under the current 'Premiership' branding with current sponsors Marine Harvest taking the helm at the beginning of the 2015 season. In 2019, Marine Harvest rebranded as Mowi ASA, with the league being known as the Mowi Premiership. Skye Camanachd
Skye Camanachd is a shinty team from the Isle of Skye, Highland, Scotland. It plays in the Premier Division and has a reserve team in North Division One, as well as a Ladies team in the WCA National Division One and a Ladies reserve team in the WCA Development League. The club is based at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Early history Skye had a strong tradition of playing shinty on the Old Celtic New Year, and there were a Portree Club and a Bernisdale Club in existence in the 1880s. However, Skye Camanachd in its present form came into being in 1892, winning the first ever MacTavish Cup. The club was a founding member of the Camanachd Association and entered the Camanachd Cup despite mainland clubs trying to force them to play on the mainland. Lovat Shinty Club
Lovat Shinty Club is a shinty club from Kiltarlity, Inverness-shire, Scotlandbr> The club was formed in 188and has a healthy rivalry with near neighbours Beauly Shinty Club, Beauly. The club takes its name from the area within which it plays in and shared this name with the late Second World War hero, Lord Lovat. History Founded in 1888, the club has never folded but did merge with Beauly Shinty Club, Beauly early in the 20th Century and won the Camanachd Cup in 1912/13 as the combined team. After the first war, the team also reached the final in 1925. In 1953 was Lovat's finest hour, achieving the Grand Slam, winning every single competitiothey entered at Senior and Junior level, they were the first club to ever achieve this feat. Kinlochshiel
Kinlochshiel Shinty Club is a shinty club based in Balmacara, near Kyle of Lochalsh, Lochalsh, Scotland. The club has two sides, a senior team which competes in the Marine Harvest Premiership and a reserve team in North Division One. Kinlochshiel won their first ever senior national trophy winning the 2016 MacAulay Cup. In 2017 they won their inaugural Premiership becoming only the fourth team to do so and the second not based in Badenoch. In 2021 they completed a club grand slam by adding the Camanachd Cup and MacTavish Cup for the first time. History The club was the result of an amalgamation of three clubs ''Kin''tail, ''Loch''alsh and Glen''shiel'', who first joined forces in 1958. Kingussie Camanachd
Kingussie Camanachd is a shinty team from Kingussie, Scotland and according to the Guinness Book of Records 2005, is world sport's most successful sporting team of all time, winning 20 consecutive leagues and going 4 years unbeaten at one stage in the early 1990s. The club are current holders of the Camanachd Cup, the MacAulay Cup and the MacTavish Cup. History The club was founded in 1893. It won the first ever Camanachd Cup in 1896 and the club has won the cup more times than any other team, apart from Newtonmore. However, despite early success in the competition for much of the twentieth century the club struggled to win the trophy, with a victory in 1961 the club's first in forty years. Inverness Shinty Club
Inverness Shinty Club is a shinty club from Inverness, Scotland. The first team competes in North Division One and the second team in North Division Three. Founded in 1887 as Inverness Town and County Shinty Club to distinguish from other clubs in Inverness such as Clachnacuddin, Inverness moved to the Bught Park in 1934. Inverness won the Camanachd Cup in 1952. The club struggles to compete for players with the wide proliferation of football clubs in Inverness, in particular Inverness Caledonian Thistle but still manages to put out two teams. Glengarry Shinty Club
Glengarry Shinty Club is a shinty team from Invergarry, Inverness-shire, Scotland. The club has played in its present form since 1976. There is one senior team, competing in North Division Two (shinty), North Division Two . The club also runs a highly successful women's team. History A club called Glengarry played against Fort Augustus in 1882 and was active in the 1930s. However, in 1948 the club amalgamated with Fort Augustus and became Inveroich. The club was reconstituted as Glengarry in 1976 and has continued to this day. The club won the Balliemore Cup in 1985, 1988 and 1989 and also reached the final of the Valerie Fraser Cup in 1990 and 1991. Glenurquhart Shinty Club
Glenurquhart Shinty Club is a shinty team which plays in Drumnadrochit on the banks of Loch Ness, Scotland. It draws its players from the part of the Great Glen which encompasses Drumnadrochit, Lewiston and Glenurquhart. The club has been existence since 1885. They won their first senior trophy, the MacAulay Cup in 2012. After 2013 and 2014 saw them lose two successive MacTavish Cups, they are currently the holders as of 2015. Caberfeidh
Caberfeidh Camanachd Club is a shinty team based in Strathpeffer, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland. Consisting of two teams, Caberfeidh currently play in the Marine Harvest Premiership having been promoted from the National Division after the 2017 season. The Caberfeidh 2nd's currently play in the Marine Harvest North Division 2. The name Caberfeidh comes from the Scots Gaelic for a stag's antlers, ''Cabar Feidh'' which is the symbol of Ross-shire. Camanachd Association
The Camanachd Association (in Scottish Gaelic, ''Comann na Camanachd'') is the world governing body of the Scottish sport of shinty. The body is based in Inverness, Highland, and is in charge of the rules of the game. Its main competitions are the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup and the Mowi Premiership and the Mowi Valerie Fraser Camanachd Cup. Structure The Camanachd Association was founded in 1893 after a meeting in Kingussie in order to formalize a set of rules for the many shinty clubs across the British Isles. The Camanachd Association maintained its initial structure for much of its first century but the ‘Future of Shinty' Report published in 1981 led to a compete restructuring of the way in which shinty was organised and managed. That, in turn, led to the move away from a dependence on volunteers to govern the sport, to the Association's first salaried employees being employed.
