North Coast Daylight Express
The North Coast Daylight Express was an Australian passenger train operated by the New South Wales Government Railways from November 1951 until February 1990. It operated from Sydney via the North Coast line to Grafton. It commenced operating in November 1951 formed out a four-car DEB set. However mechanical issues with the set saw it replaced by locomotive hauled RUB set from May 1952. New South Wales RUB Type Carriage Stock
The RUB type carriage stock was a type of steel bodied air conditioned passenger carriage operated by the New South Wales Government Railways from September 1949 until April 2000. History In 1943, the New South Wales Government Railways awarded a contract for twenty steel sitting carriages to Waddingtons. These were to be similar to the N type carriages that had been built in 1939 but with the addition of steam heating. Delays in construction & redesign as Air Conditioned Carriages Construction of these cars was shelved while wartime restrictions were in place and when the project resumed in 1945, it was decided the carriages should be air-conditioned and the order increased to fifty. Work had already commenced on the underframes when it was decided to lengthen the carriages from necessitating in the reworking of those already in production. New South Wales XPT
The New South Wales ''XPT'' (short for eXpress Passenger Train) is a class of diesel-powered passenger trains built by Comeng and ABB Transportation. Based on the British Rail designed Intercity 125 High Speed Train, each XPT set is made up of two XP Power Cars in a push-pull formation coupled to between four and seven carriages. ''Railway Digest'' is a monthly magazine, published in Sydney, covering contemporary railways of Australia. Overview The magazine's publisher is the Australian Railway Historical Society (ARHS), NSW Division. The first issue was published in March 1963 under the name ''New South Wales Digest'' and regular publication commenced with the May 1963 edition. It was renamed in January 1983. In January 1985 it changed paper size from SRA5 to A4. Originally an enthusiast magazine mainly focusing on reporting day-to-day workings of the New South Wales Government Railways and it successors, it was produced by volunteers using a hand-operated duplicator at the home of one of its members. The 620/720 class railcars were a class of diesel multiple unit built by the New South Wales Government Railways and operated from 1961 until 2007. Construction The 620/720 class railcars were an evolution of the 600/700 railcars that had been built in 1949/50. Like their predecessors they were built with an aluminium body on a steel frame at the New South Wales Government Railways' Chullora Railway Workshops. Taree Railway Station
Taree railway station is located on the North Coast line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the town of Taree, opening on 5 February 1913 when the line was extended from Dungog. It was the terminus of the line until it was extended to Wauchope on 12 April 1915. It had extensive locomotive servicing facilities, including an eight road roundhouse. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. Platforms & services Taree has one platform with a yard opposite. Daily northbound XPT services operate to Grafton, Casino and Brisbane, with three southbound services operating to Sydney. It is also served by daily coach services to Broadmeadow. The 900/800 class railcars (or DEB sets) were Diesel Multiple Units built by the New South Wales Government Railways between November 1951 and November 1960. Configuration As introduced, the DEB sets were formed as a four-car with a power car at either end of two trailer cars. The set consisted a driving power car with luggage compartment and second class seating (HPF), a first class sitting car (TB), a second class sitting car with buffet (TFR) and a driving power car with second class seating (PF).
