North Carolina Highway 11 Bypass
North Carolina Highway 11 Bypass (NC 11 Byp.), is a , bypass route of NC 11 in Pitt County, North Carolina. The bypass is a four-lane freeway that runs between a junction with NC 11 south of Ayden to an interchange with U.S. Route 264 (US 264), US 13, NC 11, and NC 903 north of Greenville, wrapping around the west side of Ayden and Winterville and the northwest side of Greenville. The southern of the route is known as the Greenville Southwest Bypass to locals, which was built due to plans relating traffic alleviation the NC 11 and Stantonsburg Road corridors. The remaining segment of the route is concurrent with US 264. The Greenville Southwest Bypass was proposed due to the recent increased population growth of Greenville, which has led to congestion along the NC 11 corridor. Ayden, North Carolina
Ayden is a town in Pitt County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 4,977 at the 2020 Census. The town is a part of the Greenville Metropolitan Area of North Carolina's Inner Banks region. Geography Ayden is located at (35.470973, -77.420740), with a total area of 3.84 square miles, all land. History In 1891, William Henry Harris asked the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad to build a railroad depot on a portion of his farm in order to create a village. A parcel of land was divided into residential lots surrounding the depot in "Harristown", with Harris owning every other lot. Within the next several years, lots were sold and homes built. Businesses began to open up to support the new residents, and on February 3, 1891, the town was incorporated as "Ayden." Interstate 587 (I-587) is a auxiliary Interstate Highway in the US state of North Carolina. The western terminus of the highway is at I-95, I-795, and US Highway 264 (US 264) near Wilson.
