The North America Cup is an annual harness racing event for 3-year-old standardbred pacing horses which is held at Woodbine Mohawk Park in Campbellville, Ontario, Canada. The race replaced the Queen City Pace run from 1964 to 1983. Mohawk Racetrack
Mohawk Racetrack (branded as Woodbine Mohawk Park) is a harness racing track in Campbellville, Ontario. It is owned by Woodbine Entertainment Group (formerly the Ontario Jockey Club) and is about 40 km southwest of the company's other racetrack, Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario. Woodbine Mohawk Park also has a large slot machine parlour with over 1,000 slot machines, which is operated by Great Canadian Gaming; some of the revenue from this operation is used to increase the horseracing purses. Ken Middleton is the longtime track announcer. History The track was opened on April 26, 1963, by the then Ontario Jockey Club as Mohawk Racetrack, and 4,338 people attended. The 400-acre site was constructed at a cost of $3.5 million; it could house 828 horses in the barns and had enough parking for 3,000 cars. Mark Ford (born October 12, 1970, in Ronceverte, West Virginia) is a trainer of Standardbred horses in the sport of harness racing. He is best known as the trainer of Gallo Blue Chip, 2000 Harness Horse of the Year and the then richest pacer of all time. Michel "Mike" Lachance (born December 16, 1950 in St. Augustin, Quebec) is a retired harness racing driver. Widely recognized as among the best drivers of all time, his outstanding career began in 1967 in Quebec City. At retirement, he had won 10,253 races and purses totalling $187,710,149. He has been inducted into both the United States and Canadian Harness Racing Halls of Fame. Bettor's Delight is a former champion American Standardbred race-horse and one of the World's greatest stud stallions. Bettor's Delight was foaled on 4 May 1998 and bred by Winbak Farm of Chesapeake City, Maryland. He was purchased for $65,000 at the 1999 Harrisburg yearling sale by John B. Grant of Milton, Ontario. Catello Manzi
Catello R. Manzi (born June 27, 1950) is an American harness racing driver and trainer. Manzi's nickname is 'Catman'. Born in Monticello, New York, Manzi grew up in Sullivan County, New York, in a harness-racing family. His father Alfonso was a horse trainer. He drove his first race at Monticello Raceway in the late 1960s. Manzi's first career win came at Pocono Downs in 1969. In 1974 Manzi set a Monticello Raceway record for most wins by a driver. The 1994 Yonkers Trot winner, Bullsville Victory, was driven by Manzi. Manzi also drove Sugar Trader to victory in the 2003 Yonkers Trot. The Yonkers Trot is the second leg of the Triple Crown of Harness Racing for Trotters. On May 27, 1999, Manzi suffered serious injuries in a spill at Freehold Raceway.
