Norheimsund is the administrative centre of the municipality of Kvam in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the northern side of the Hardangerfjord, about from the city of Bergen. The village of Øystese lies about to the northeast and the village of Vikøy lies about southeast of Norheimsund. The village of Steine is a suburb, immediately to the west of Norheimsund. The village (which includes the neighboring village of Øystese) has a population (2019) of 4,399 and a population density of . Norheimsund has a lot of tourist traffic, especially in the summers. Norheimsund Church
Norheimsund Church ( no, Norheimsund kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Kvam Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Norheimsund. It is one of the churches for the Vikøy parish which is part of the Hardanger og Voss prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The brick church was built in a long church design in 1989 using plans drawn up by the architect Peder A. Ristesund from Bergen. The church seats about 700 people. History Historically, the people of Norheimsund were part of the Vikøy Church parish, meaning the people of Norheimsund had to travel several kilometers to the church located in Vikøy. Kvam is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The municipality is located along the Hardangerfjorden in the traditional district of Hardanger. Hardangerfjord
The Hardangerfjord ( en, Hardanger Fjord) is the fifth longest fjord in the world, and the second longest fjord in Norway. It is located in Vestland county in the Hardanger region. The fjord stretches from the Atlantic Ocean into the mountainous interior of Norway along the Hardangervidda plateau. The innermost point of the fjord reaches the town of Odda. Location The Hardangerfjord starts at the Atlantic Ocean about south of the city of Bergen. Here the fjord heads in a northeasterly direction between the island of Bømlo and the mainland. Øystese
Øystese is a village in the municipality of Kvam in Vestland county, Norway. It is located along the Hardangerfjord about east of the municipal centre of Norheimsund. Norwegian County Road 7 passes through the village. The village had a population (2012) of 1,881; giving the village a population density of . It is now considered part of the Norheimsund urban area, so separate village statistics are no longer tracked. The village is an industry centre for the municipality. It is a leading producer of lumber and there are also several furniture factories. Vikøy is a village in Kvam municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the shore of the Hardangerfjorden, about south of the municipal centre of Norheimsund. Toka Gorge
The Toka Gorge ( no, Tokagjelet) is a river gorge in Kvam, Norway. The gorge lies west of the village of Norheimsund in Hordaland county. The gorge is traversed by Norwegian County Road 7, which was laid out around 1890, started being built in 1903, and it was opened in 1907. Large parts of the road were built by hand while workers hung on ropes against the sheer mountainside. A new route with four tunnels was built between 1953 and 1956. In 2009 the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage protected the old road as part of the National Protection Plan for Roads, Bridges, and Road-Related Cultural Heritage. Steinsdalsfossen
Steinsdalsfossen (also called ''Øvsthusfossen'' or ''Øfsthusfossen'') is a waterfall in the village of Steine in the municipality of Kvam in Vestland county, Norway. The waterfall is located about west of the large village of Norheimsund which sits along the Hardangerfjorden. The waterfall is one of the most visited tourist sites in Norway. From the parking lot, the path goes along the waterfall, up a hill, and behind it where visitors can walk dryshod "into" the rumbling water.
