Nordfold
Nordfold is a village in Steigen Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The village of Nordfold lies along the Nordfolda, a northern branch of the main Folda fjord. It lies about east of the municipal centre of Leinesfjorden. It is the location of the Nordfold Church. History The village was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Nordfold which existed from 1906 until 1964. Nordfold (municipality)
Nordfold is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1906 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality surrounded the Nordfolda branch off of the Folda fjord in what is now Steigen Municipality, plus a small portion of the present-day Sørfold Municipality. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Nordfold, where the Nordfold Church is located. History The municipality of Nordfold was established on 1 January 1906 when the old Nordfold-Kjerringøy Municipality was split into two new municipalities: Nordfold (population: 1,485) and Kjerringøy (population: 857). During the 1960s, there were many municipal mergers across Norway due to the work of the Schei Committee. On 1 January 1964, Nordfold municipality ceased to exist. Nordfold Church
Nordfold Church ( no, Nordfold kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Steigen Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Nordfold. It is the church for the Nordfold parish which is part of the Salten prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The wood and brick church was built in a rectangular style in 1976 using plans drawn up by the architect Tor G. Dahlstrøm. The church seats up to about 260 people. History The first church in Nordfold was built in 1884, after about 20 years of the residents trying to get one. Jens Olsen from Hemnes was the lead builder. On 30 September 1884, the church was consecrated by the Bishop Jacob Sverdrup Smitt. That church seated about 400 people. A major renovation was completed on the church in 1973. Steigen Tunnel
The Steigen Tunnel ( no, Steigentunnelen) is a road tunnel in Nordland county, Norway. The long tunnel is located on the Norwegian County Road 835 highway in the municipalities of Hamarøy and Steigen. The tunnel begins at the village of Tømmerneset in Hamarøy and heads northwest through the Veggfjellan mountain to the northwest, exiting the mountain at the Forsan farm.
