Nordfjorden (Sogn Og Fjordane)
Nordfjorden is the sixth longest fjord in Norway. It flows through the municipalities of Stryn, Gloppen, Stad, Bremanger, and Kinn, and it is the central feature of the entire Nordfjord region which makes up the northern third of the county. The long fjord stretches from Husevågøy island in Kinn Municipality to the village of Loen in Stryn Municipality. The fjord starts as runoff from the Jostedalsbreen, Europe's largest mainland glacier, in the east and it flows west, emptying into the ocean just south of the Stadlandet peninsula. The mouth of the fjord lies between the large islands of Vågsøy and Bremangerlandet (with the smaller island of Husevågøy lying in the middle of the mouth). There are several smaller fjords which branch off the main Nordfjorden: Eidsfjorden, Ålfotfjorden, Hyefjorden, and Gloppefjorden. Nordfjord
Nordfjord ( en, Northern fjord—in contrast to Sunnfjord) is a traditional district of Norway. Geography The region is located in the northern part of Vestland county in Western Norway. It centers on the Nordfjorden and it comprises the municipalities of Selje, Vågsøy, Bremanger, Eid, Gloppen, Hornindal, and Stryn. The Nordfjord region covers an area of about and is home to a population (2010) of approximately 32,464. The fjord is the sixth longest in Norway stretching from the island of Husevågøy at the mouth to the village of Loen at the other end. Vågsøy (island)
Vågsøy is an island in Kinn Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island lies on the northern side of the mouth of the Nordfjorden (Sogn og Fjordane), Nordfjorden, the sixth longest fjord in Norway. The Stadlandet peninsula lies to the north of the island, the islands of Silda, Sogn og Fjordane, Silda and Barmøya and the mainland lie to the east of the island, the island of Husevågøy lies to the south (in the middle of the mouth of the Nordfjorden), and the open ocean lies to the west. Since the island lies along the open ocean, which can be rough, there are several lighthouses along the coastline of the island including: Hendanes Lighthouse, Kråkenes Lighthouse, and Skongenes Lighthouse. Ålfoten is a village in Bremanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located along the Ålfotfjorden, a branch of the main Nordfjorden and has a population of about 200. The village has an elementary school, a grocery store and the Ålfoten Church (built in 1678). Ålfoten has two hydroelectric power stations, Åskåra and Yksneelvane. Ålfoten is surrounded by mountains. Davik (village)
Davik is a village in Bremanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the southern shore of the Nordfjorden, about west of the village of Isane and about east of the village of Rugsund. The village of Kjølsdalen lies across the fjord from Davik. The population of the village (in 2001) was about 330 residents. The village of Davik was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Davik which was in existence from 1838 until 1964 when it was dissolved and its lands were split between three other municipalities. Rugsund
Rugsund is a village in Bremanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the mainland along the shore of the Nordfjorden. The village is home to Rugsund Church, the local church for this part of the municipality. There has been a church here, serving the Rugsund parish since the middle ages. There is a bridge on the south side of the village that connects the mainland to the island of Rugsundøya, just to the west. Bryggja is a village in southwestern part of Stad Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located on the mainland, along the northern shore of the Nordfjorden. The village is located about east of the urban areas of MÃ¥løy–Deknepollen–Tennebø in Kinn Municipality and it is about west of the village of StÃ¥rheim. Electric Boat
An electric boat is a powered watercraft driven by electric motors, which are powered by either on-board battery packs, solar panels or generators. Gloppefjorden
Gloppefjorden or Gloppenfjorden is a fjord in Gloppen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The long fjord flows from the village of Sandane in the southeast to its mouth at the Nordfjorden in the northwest. The river Gloppeelva is the primary inflow on the fjord. The river comes from the large lake Breimsvatnet. The wide fjord has a lot of settlements along the inner parts of the fjord, especially on the eastern side of the fjord. Hyefjorden
Hyefjorden is a fjord in Gloppen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The long Hyefjorden is relatively narrow with steep rock walls located close to the fjord on both sides. The west side is where impassable mountains plunge straight into the fjord. Norwegian County Road 615 runs on the east side of the bay, with a series of tunnels through avalanche areas. The Hyefjorden flows from the village of Hyen at the south to the north where it flows into the large Nordfjorden.
