Norah Stoner
Norah Jane Stoner (April 20, 1945) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. She was a Ontario Liberal Party, Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1987 to 1990. Background Stoner worked as a commercial artist before entering political life. Politics Stoner was a member of the Pickering, Ontario, Pickering Council from 1977 to 1983, and of the Durham Regional Municipality, Durham Regional Council from 1983 to 1987. She was elected to the Ontario legislature in the 1987 Ontario general election, 1987 provincial election, defeating incumbent Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, Progressive Conservative George Ashe by almost 6,000 votes in the riding of Durham West (provincial electoral district), Durham West. She served as a backbench supporter of David Peterson's government, and was appointed as parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Colleges and Universities (Ontario), Minister of Colleges and Universities in 1989. A Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) is an elected member of the Legislative Assembly of the Canadian province of Ontario. Elsewhere in Canada, the titular designation "Member of Provincial Parliament" has also been used to refer to members of the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada from 1791 to 1838, and to members of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1955 to 1968. Before the adoption of this resolution, members had no fixed designation.
