Nolin River
The Nolin River is a U.S. Geological Survey. National Hydrography Dataset high-resolution flowline dataThe National Map accessed June 13, 2011 tributary of the Green River in central Kentucky in the United States. Via the Green and Ohio rivers, it is a part of the watershed of the Mississippi River. According to legend, Nolin River was so named when a group of hunters camped on a knoll near the river and a member of the hunting party, Benjamin Lynn, became lost. The story continues the rest of the party returned to the knoll where someone said "Here is the knoll, but no Lynn!" The lost hunter was later found alive and well camped out at nearby Lynn Camp Creek. The United States Board on Geographic Names settled on "Nolin River" as the stream's name in 1933. As a child, Abraham Lincoln swam there. Hart County, Kentucky
Hart County is a county located in the south central portion of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 19,288. Its county seat is Munfordville. Hart County is a prohibition or dry county. History Hart County was formed in 1819 from portions of Hardin and Barren counties. The county is named for Captain Nathaniel G. S. Hart, a Kentucky militia officer in the War of 1812 who was wounded at the Battle of Frenchtown and died in the Massacre of the River Raisin. The Battle of Munfordville, a Confederate victory, was fought in the county in 1862, during the American Civil War. A courthouse fire in January, 1928 resulted in the loss of some county records. In 1989 the Amish settlement near Munfordville was founded. It has ties to the Geauga Amish settlement in Ohio, from where many of the Munfordville Amish came. Nolin River Lake
Nolin River Lake is a reservoir in Edmonson, Grayson, and Hart counties in Kentucky. It was impounded from the Nolin River by the United States Army Corps of Engineers in 1963. The Nolin River dam was authorized in 1938 as part of a flood control act. The lake varies from 2,890 acres (11.7 km2) in the winter to 5,795 acres (23.5 km2) in the summer. Nearby attractions include Mammoth Cave National Park, Nolin Lake State Park, Moutardier Resort and Marina, Ponderosa Boat Dock/Marina and Wax Marina. Moutardier is an unincorporated community that abuts Nolin River Lake. Kyrock, Kentucky
Kyrock is a ghost town in Edmonson County in south central Kentucky. The ghost town is located about east of Sweeden, or about north-northeast of the county seat of Brownsville. It was once a referred to as a “company town” along the Nolin River during much of the first half of the 20th century, but the industrial town was disincorporated in 1966, about nine years after the closure of the company that created the town.
