Noemi Press
Noemi Press is an independent, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) publisher. Noemi Press was founded in 2002 to publish and promote the work of emerging and established writers, with a special emphasis on writers traditionally underrepresented by larger publishers, including women, BIPOC, and LGBTQIAP writers. Noemi publishes about five books a year, including the Noemi Press Awards in Poetry. They also collaborate with Letras Latinas to produce the Akrilica series. History Publisher and editor-in-chief Carmen Giménez and founding editor Evan Lavender-Smith began Noemi Press in 2002 by publishing a single chapbook. It has since grown to include full-length poetry, nonfiction, critical work, drama, and fiction. Small Press
A small press is a publisher with annual sales below a certain level or below a certain number of titles published. The terms "indie publisher" and "independent press" and others are sometimes used interchangeably. Independent press is generally defined as publishers that are not part of large conglomerates or multinational corporations. Many small presses rely on specialization in genre fiction, poetry, or limited-edition books or magazines, but there are also thousands that focus on niche non-fiction markets. Douglas Kearney (born 1974) is an American poet, performer and librettist. Kearney grew up in Altadena, California. Juan Felipe Herrera
Juan Felipe Herrera (born in December 27, 1948) is an American poet, performer, writer, cartoonist, teacher, and activist. Herrera was the 21st United States Poet Laureate from 2015 to 2017. Herrera's experiences as the child of migrant farmers have strongly shaped his work, such as the children's book '' Calling the Doves'', which won the Ezra Jack Keats Book Award in 1997. Community and art have always been part of what has driven Herrera, beginning in the mid-1970s, when he was director of the '' Centro Cultural de la Raza'', an occupied water tank in Balboa Park that had been converted into an arts space for the community. The Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress—commonly referred to as the United States Poet Laureate—serves as the official poet of the United States. Muriel Leung
Muriel Leung is an American writer. Her work includes the poetry collection ''Bone Confetti'', which won the 2015 Noemi Press Book Award and ''Imagine Us, The Swarm,'' which received the Nightboat’s Poetry Prize. She has received multiple writing fellowships, and her work was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Early life Leung grew up in Richmond Hills, New York. Her first language is Cantonese. Prose
Prose is a form of written or spoken language that follows the natural flow of speech, uses a language's ordinary grammatical structures, or follows the conventions of formal academic writing.
