Noel Gratiaen
Edward Frederick Noel Gratiaen (20 December 1904 – 1973) , was a Ceylonese lawyer and judge. He was a former Attorney General of Sri Lanka, Attorney General of Ceylon and List of Justices of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court of Ceylon. Education He was educated at S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia, he then went on to study at Exeter College, Oxford and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, BA in 1925. Upon his return to Ceylon, he became a journalist joining the ''Ceylon Independent'' of Sir Marcus Fernando, however after the paper went out of publication, he enrolled at the Sri Lanka Law College, Ceylon Law College and qualified as an Advocate#Sri Lanka, Advocate. Mark Anthony Lyster Bracegirdle (10 September 1912 – 22 June 1999) was a British-born Australian Marxist revolutionary who played a key role in the Sri Lankan independence movement. He was one of the handful of European Radicals in Sri Lanka. He is most known for initiating the Bracegirdle Incident. Early life Bracegirdle was born in Chelsea, to Ina Marjorie Lyster and James Seymour Bracegirdle, and was educated in Kennington. He emigrated to Australia with his mother, a suffragette who had been active in the Labour Party and a candidate in 1925 for the Holborn borough. Rosslyn Koch
Theodore Hugh Rosslyn Koch (21 December 1886 - 24 April 1961) was a Ceylonese businessman, company director and politician. Koch was born on 21 December 1886, the sixth child and fourth son of Cecil Theodore (1852-1890) and Evelyn Harriet (''née'' Foenander) (1855-1919). Koch married Florence Lilian Kriekenbeek (1891-?) on 7 April 1915; they had four children: Kathleen Frances Theodora (b.1916); Henry Templar Rosslyn (b.1918); Pamela (b.1926); and Wilhelm Louis (b.1948). In 1938, he became a founding director of the Ceylon Insurance Company, going on to serve as its chairman from 1942 to 1960. The ''Daily News'' is an English-language newspaper in Sri Lanka. It is now published by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (Lake House), a government-owned corporation. The newspaper commenced publishing on 3 January 1918. D. R. Wijewardena was its founder. The present-day newspaper is written as a broadsheet, with photographs printed both in color and black and white. Weekday printings include the main section, containing news on national affairs, international affairs, business, political analysis, sports, editorials and opinions. Every Thursday issue a free supplement in a tabloid paper called "Wisdom". In addition, the ''Daily News'' also provides ''The Sri Lanka Gazette'' as a supplement on every Friday. Governor-General Of Ceylon
The Governor-General of Ceylon was the representative of the Ceylonese monarch in the Dominion of Ceylon from the country's independence in 1948 until it became the republic of Sri Lanka in 1972. History There were four governors-general. Sir Henry Monck-Mason Moore became the last Governor of Ceylon and first governor-general when the ''Ceylon Order in Council'', the first constitution of independent Ceylon came into effect. He was followed by Lord Soulbury, thereafter by Oliver Goonetilleke the first Ceylonese to be appointed to the post. When William Gopallawa was appointed as Governor-General in 1962, he discarded the ceremonial uniform of office. House Of Representatives (Ceylon)
The House of Representatives was the lower chamber of the parliament of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) established in 1947 by the Soulbury Constitution. The House was housed in the old State Council building in Galle Face Green, Colombo and met for the first time on 14 October 1947. The First Republican Constitution of Sri Lanka, adopted on 22 May 1972, replaced the House of Representatives (and Parliament of Ceylon) with the unicameral National State Assembly. Membership The House of Representatives initially consisted of 101 members, of whom 95 were elected by the electors of the 89 electoral districts and six appointed by the Governor-General, on the advice of the Prime Minister. Lieutenant commander (also hyphenated lieutenant-commander and abbreviated Lt Cdr, LtCdr. or LCDR) is a commissioned officer rank in many navies. The rank is superior to a lieutenant and subordinate to a commander. Ceylon Naval Volunteer Force
The Sri Lanka Volunteer Naval Force (SLVNF) is the active-duty volunteer reserve force of the Sri Lanka Navy. The SLVNF, which consists of the volunteer force and the volunteer reserve is separate from the Regular Naval Force, which consists of the Regular Force consisting of professional naval officers and sailors, and its Regular Reserve, which comprises personal who have a mobilization obligation following their service in the regular force.
