Noel Barnett
Noel Leon Barnett (22 November 1908 – 21 July 2000) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Barnett made 11 appearances for Melbourne in the 1933 VFL season, after arriving from West Albury Football Club. While he was in Melbourne in 1933, West Albury changed its name to the Albury Football Club and Barnett returned to play with the Albury and took over from Cleaver Bunton as captain-coach for the final few games in 1934. Holbrook, New South Wales
Holbrook is a small town in Southern New South Wales, Australia. It is on the Hume Highway, by road North-East of Melbourne and by road south-west of Sydney between Tarcutta, New South Wales, Tarcutta and Albury. The town is in the Greater Hume Shire which was established in May 2004 from the merger of Culcairn, New South Wales, Culcairn Shire with the majority of Holbrook Shire and part of the Hume Shire. In Australian sport, the best and fairest award recognises the player(s) adjudged to have had the best performance in a game or over a season for a given sporting club or competition. The awards are sometimes dependent on not receiving a suspension for misconduct or breaching the rules during that season. In the Australian Football League (AFL), the Brownlow Medal is awarded to the player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season. In each game, the umpires award three votes to the player they judge to be the best afield in that game, two votes to the second-best player and one vote to the third-best player. The votes are counted at a gala function on the Monday preceding the Grand Final. Ovens & Murray Football League
The Ovens and Murray Football Netball League (O&MFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball competition containing ten clubs based in north-eastern Victoria, the southern Riverina region of New South Wales and the Ovens and Murray area. The name comes from the Ovens River, the river in the part of north-eastern Victoria covered by the league, and the Murray River, which separates Victoria and New South Wales. The league features three grades in the Australian rules football competition, with these being First-Grade, Reserve-Grade and Under 18s. In the netball competition, there are four grades, with these being A-Grade, B-Grade, C-Grade and Under 16s. Currently a home and away season consisting of eighteen rounds is played. Cleaver Bunton
Cleaver Ernest Bunton (5 May 190220 January 1999) was a long-serving Mayor of Albury, New South Wales, Australia, who came to national prominence in 1975 when he was controversially appointed to the Senate by New South Wales Liberal Party Premier, Tom Lewis, to fill a position vacated by an Australian Labor Party member. Early life Born in Albury, Bunton left school at 13 and initially worked as a clerk in a solicitor's office before becoming an accountant. He also was involved in Albury sporting and community affairs, playing Australian rules football with the Albury Football Club, becoming captain-coach and club secretary at 17. His younger brother Haydn Bunton went on to become a notable Australian rules footballer. Bunton married Eileen O'Malley in 1930.
