Plot As described in a film magazine review, Peter Maddox, a poor but capable geologist, is disappointed in love. He vows, "no more women." Wealthy Peggy Van Dyke decides that she will marry him. She follows him to his camp, pretends that she is ill, and removes a necessary part of his automobile engine to keep him with her. When she falls asleep, he leaves. Lloyd Ingraham
Lloyd Chauncey Ingraham (November 30, 1874 – April 4, 1956) was an American film actor and director. Biography Born in Rochelle, Illinois, Ingraham appeared in more than 280 films between 1912 and 1950, as well as directing more than 100 films between 1913 and 1930. Films for which he is known include ''Scaramouche'' (1923), ''The Padrone's Ward'' (1914) and '' Rainbow Valley'' (1935). He performed in several films with John Wayne including '' Rainbow Valley'' (1935), '' Empty Saddles'' (1936), '' Westward Ho'' (1935), ''The Lonely Trail'' (1936) and ''Conflict'' (1936). He died of pneumonia in the Motion Picture Hospital at Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, aged 82. His remains are buried in Chapel of the Pines Crematory. Stanhope Wheatcroft
Stanhope Nelson Wheatcroft (May 11, 1888 – February 13, 1966) was an American actor of the stage and screen who was primarily active during Hollywood's silent era. Biography Stanhope was born in New York City in 1888 to Nelson Wheatcroft and Adeline Stanhope. Both of his parents were renowned actors and drama teachers born in Europe. Stanhope attended Columbia University in New York City, and reportedly decided to embark upon a career as an actor after his father's death. Broadway plays in which Wheatcroft appeared included ''Marrying Money'' (1914), ''A Gentleman from Mississippi'' (1908), ''The Warrens of Virginia'' (1907), ''The Movers'' (1907), ''Zira'' (1905), and ''Nancy Stair'' (1905). After enjoying popularity during the silent era, his career waned in the 1930s, when his screen credits were primarily for his performances in bit parts. Georgia Hale
Georgia Theodora Hale (June 25, 1900 — June 17, 1985) was an actress of the silent movie era. Career Hale was Miss Chicago 1922 and competed in the Miss America Pageant. She began acting in the early 1920s, and achieved one of her most notable successes with her role in Charlie Chaplin's ''The Gold Rush'' (1925). She played Myrtle Wilson in the first filmed version (1926) of ''The Great Gatsby''. Chaplin cast Hale in his film based on her performance in ''The Salvation Hunters'', which also came out in 1925. ''The Gold Rush'' temporarily made her a star, but she did not survive the transition from silent film to sound, and she only made one more film after 1928. The documentary ''Unknown Chaplin'' revealed that Hale was hired by Chaplin to replace actress Virginia Cherrill as the female lead in the film ''City Lights'' (1931) during a brief period after he had fired Cherrill (and before he re-hired her). Elmer Blaney Harris
Elmer Blaney Harris (January 11, 1878 – September 6, 1966) was an American author, dramatist, and playwright. Biography Harris was born in Chicago, Illinois as the youngest of eight children. He moved with his family to Oakland, California, after his father's broom factory burned to the ground. After high school, he attended the University of California, Berkeley. He graduated in 1901 with a B.S. in writing, and as an actor for the university theater troupe, he had gained a patron, Phoebe Apperson Hearst, the mother of William Randolph Hearst. With her financial backing, Harris was able to study in New York City and Europe for the next four years. When he returned to San Francisco, he became a newspaper reporter for the ''San Francisco Call-Bulletin'', and lectured at clubs and universities on authors and playwrights, such as George Bernard Shaw and Henrik Ibsen. Clarence Burton
Clarence Forrest Burton (May 10, 1882 – December 2, 1933) was an American silent film actor. Biography Burton was born in Fort Lyon, in Benton County, Missouri and started in show business at the age of 5, playing stock and musical comedy in road productions. He was signed into films in late 1912 and starred in 132 films between 1913 and 1932. By late 1920, Burton had become heavy enough to be considered unsuited for his typical villainous roles in films. A trainer supervised a program of exercise and diet until Burton had lost enough weight to be cast in the Paramount film ''The Jacklins''. He died of a heart attack in 1933 at the age of 51 in Hollywood, California. His interment was located at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, but was removed on September 6, 1950.
