Georgia Hale
Georgia Theodora Hale (June 25, 1900 — June 17, 1985) was an actress of the silent movie era. Career Hale was Miss Chicago 1922 and competed in the Miss America Pageant. She began acting in the early 1920s, and achieved one of her most notable successes with her role in Charlie Chaplin's ''The Gold Rush'' (1925). She played Myrtle Wilson in the first filmed version (1926) of ''The Great Gatsby''. Chaplin cast Hale in his film based on her performance in ''The Salvation Hunters'', which also came out in 1925. ''The Gold Rush'' temporarily made her a star, but she did not survive the transition from silent film to sound, and she only made one more film after 1928. The documentary ''Unknown Chaplin'' revealed that Hale was hired by Chaplin to replace actress Virginia Cherrill as the female lead in the film ''City Lights'' (1931) during a brief period after he had fired Cherrill (and before he re-hired her). The Gold Rush
''The Gold Rush'' is a 1925 American silent comedy film written, produced, and directed by Charlie Chaplin. The film also stars Chaplin in his Little Tramp persona, Georgia Hale, Mack Swain, Tom Murray, Henry Bergman, and Malcolm Waite. Chaplin drew inspiration from photographs of the Klondike Gold Rush as well as from the story of the Donner Party who, when snowbound in the Sierra Nevada, were driven to cannibalism or eating leather from their shoes. Chaplin, who believed tragedies and comics were not far from each other, decided to combine these stories of deprivation and horror in comedy. He decided that his famous rogue figure should become a gold-digger who joins a brave optimist determined to face all the pitfalls associated with the search for gold, such as sickness, hunger, cold, loneliness, or the possibility that he may at any time be attacked by a grizzly. In the film, scenes like Chaplin cooking and dreaming of his shoe, or how his starving friend Big Jim sees him ... The Last Moment
''The Last Moment'' is a 1928 American drama film conceived and directed by Paul Fejos. The film starred Otto Matieson and Georgia Hale. Fejos made ''The Last Moment'' on a budget of US$13,000. The film told its story without intertitles, which was very unusual for a silent film, and used double- and triple-exposures and expressionistic editing, giving it a style that was not common for commercial releases of that period. Charlie Chaplin saw the film in a private screening and arranged for it to be theatrically released by United Artists. No print of ''The Last Moment'' is known to exist in any archive or private collection, and it is considered a lost film. Plot A man drowns himself in lake. As he is dying, he recalls the crucial moments of his life and the incidents that led to his final, fatal decision.
