No Horses
"No Horses" is a 2017 stand-alone single released by the American rock band Garbage (band), Garbage, and was recorded and released to coincide with the band's co-headlining Rage and Rapture tour with Blondie (band), Blondie, as well as the release of the band's coffee table book ''This Is the Noise That Keeps Me Awake''. At the time, Garbage drummer Butch Vig mooted that "No Horses" could the lead single for Garbage's seventh studio album. In 2021, "No Horses" would ultimately be included on the deluxe edition bonus disc of that album, ''No Gods No Masters (Garbage album), No Gods No Masters''. All proceeds from the sales/streams of "No Horses" were donated to the International Committee of the Red Cross until the end of 2018. Garbage is an American rock band formed in 1993 in Madison, Wisconsin. The band's lineup—consisting of Scottish singer Shirley Manson (vocals) and American musicians Duke Erikson (guitar, bass, keyboards), Steve Marker (guitar, keyboards), and Butch Vig (drums, production)—has remained unchanged since its inception. Scott Stuckey (born March 23, 1964) is an American filmmaker and record producer from Washington, D.C. Stuckey is best known as the creator of the cult TV show ''Pancake Mountain'', as well as his work with singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt. Career Stuckey was born in Eastman, Georgia, United States. His mother was an English teacher and father, W. S. Stuckey Jr., a Congressman from Georgia’s 8th district. His grandfather started Stuckey's, a chain of restaurants on the highway. The family moved to D.C. in 1966. In high school he was placed in a small creative school where he met like-minded people and discovered D.C.'s fledgling punk scene. He recalled how important this was in a Time Magazine profile: “ e DC scene and Dischord (records) showed me that music could be created outside of traditional systems. 20 Years Paranoid was a concert tour by American-Scottish alternative rock group Garbage (band), Garbage, to mark the twentieth anniversary of their second album ''Version 2.0''. The title also references the album's second single "I Think I'm Paranoid", and the promotional poster is redolent of the album's orange jacket artwork. The tour was preceded in June by a special 20th anniversary edition of ''Version 2.0'', which was re-mastered in late 2017. Garbage will perform the album in its entirety as well as all the B-sides recorded and released during the album's promotional cycle spanning the years 1998–2000. Saratoga is a city in Santa Clara County, California. Located in Silicon Valley, in the southern Bay Area, its population was 31,051 at the 2020 census. Saratoga is an affluent residential community, known for its wineries, restaurants, and attractions like Villa Montalvo, Mountain Winery, and Hakone Gardens. History The area comprising Saratoga was earlier inhabited by the Ohlone Native Americans. Straight To Hell (The Clash Song)
"Straight to Hell" is a song by the Clash, from their album '' Combat Rock''. It was released as a double A-side single with "Should I Stay or Should I Go" on 17 September 1982 in 12" and 7" vinyl format (the 7" vinyl is also available as a picture disc). Writing and recording "Straight to Hell" was written and recorded towards the very end of the Clash's New York recording sessions for the ''Combat Rock'' album. Mick Jones' guitar technician Digby Cleaver describes the sessions as "a mad, creative rush" that occurred on 30 December 1981, the day before the Clash was due to fly out of New York on New Year's Eve 1981. The Clash
The Clash were an English rock band formed in London in 1976 who were key players in the original wave of British punk rock. Billed as "The Only Band That Matters", they also contributed to the and new wave movements that emerged in the wake of punk and employed elements of a variety of genres including reggae, dub, funk, ska, and rockabilly. Mississippi Goddam
"Mississippi Goddam" is a song written and performed by American singer and pianist Nina Simone, who later announced the anthem to be her "first civil rights song". The song was released on her album ''Nina Simone in Concert'' in 1964, which was based on recordings of three concerts she gave at Carnegie Hall earlier that year. The album was her first release for the Dutch label Philips Records and is indicative of the more political turn her recorded music took during this period. Simone composed "Mississippi Goddam" in less than an hour. Nina Simone
Eunice Kathleen Waymon (February 21, 1933 – April 21, 2003), known professionally as Nina Simone (), was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, and civil rights activist. Her music spanned styles including classical, folk, gospel, blues, jazz, R&B, and pop. The sixth of eight children born from a poor family in Tryon, North Carolina, Simone initially aspired to be a concert pianist. With the help of a few supporters in her hometown, she enrolled in the Juilliard School of Music in New York City.
