The Network of Bay Area Worker Cooperatives (NoBAWC ''- pronounced "No Boss"'') is a network of worker cooperatives dedicated to building workplace democracy in the San Francisco Bay Area.Gans, LydiaBe Your Own Boss, Join a Collective.''The Berkeley Daily Planet.'' 29 July 2005. NoBAWC was founded in September 1994 when workers representing nine worker cooperatives met to address their isolation and to build a worker cooperative movement in the region. Twelve years later, NoBAWC comprises over 30 dues-paying workplaces with a paid staff. NoBAWC is a member of the United States Federation of Worker Cooperatives. Rainbow Grocery Cooperative is a worker-owned and run food cooperative located in San Francisco, California. Founded in 1975, Rainbow Grocery is a member of NoBAWC and the United States Federation of Worker Cooperatives. History Rainbow Grocery began as a bulk food-buying program by followers of Guru Maharaji (Prem Pal Rawat), a spiritual teacher San Francisco in the early 1970s; it quickly became a secular project. The buying program was coordinated by an ashram member who worked with the People's Common Operating Warehouse of San Francisco, a political project using food distribution as a form of community organizing and political education. The People's Warehouse was striving to build a “People’s Food System,” including a network of small community food stores throughout San Francisco. Wood is a porous and fibrous structural tissue found in the stems and roots of trees and other woody plants. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (; ; 18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013) was a South African anti-apartheid activist who served as the first president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. The Lusty Lady is a pair of defunct peep show establishments, one in downtown Seattle and one in the North Beach district of San Francisco. The Lusty Lady was made famous by the labor activism of its San Francisco workers and the publication of several books about working there. History The Seattle Lusty Lady, known originally as the Amusement Center, was opened in the 1970s by two business associates, who soon after opened the other location in San Francisco.
