Niue Distinguished Service Cross
The Niue National Awards is a system of orders, decorations and medals to recognise the achievements of, or service by, Niueans. It was established in 2020. Previously Niue had fallen under the New Zealand royal honours system. The awards are decided by the National Awards Committee and announced each year on Constitution Day, 19 October. There are three levels of awards: * The Niue Distinguished Service Cross (NDSC) for distinguished service, for those who have "contributed many years of outstanding service to the people and nation of Niue"; * The Niue Public Service Medal (NPSM) for those who have contributed significantly as members of the Niue Public Service; and * The Niue Community Service Star (NCSS) for community service. Order (honour)
An order is a visible honour awarded by a sovereign state, monarch, Dynasty, dynastic house or organisation to a person, typically in recognition of individual Meritocracy, merit, that often comes with distinctive insignia such as Collar (order), collars, medals, badges, and sashes worn by recipients. Modern honour systems of state orders and dynastic orders emerged from the culture of orders of chivalry of the Middle Ages, which in turn emerged from the Catholic religious orders. Terminology The word order ( la, ordo), in the case referred to in this article, can be traced back to the chivalric orders, including the military order (society), military orders, which in turn trace the name of their organisation back to that of the Catholic religious orders. Jack Willie Lipitoa
Jack Willie Lipitoa (born ) is a Niuean politician and former Member of the Niue Assembly. He is the older brother of former Cabinet Minister Enetama Lipitoa. Lipitoa worked as a teacher, first at Matalave and then at Niue High School. He was first elected to the Niuean Assembly at the 1987 Niuean general election, replacing his brother who had moved to a seat on the common roll. He has been re-elected at every election since. He retired at the 2023 election. Niue And The Commonwealth Of Nations
Niue (, ; niu, Niuē) is an island country in the South Pacific Ocean, northeast of New Zealand. Niue's land area is about and its population, predominantly Polynesian, was about 1,600 in 2016. Niue is located in a triangle between Tonga, Samoa, and the Cook Islands. It is 604 kilometres northeast of Tonga. The island is commonly referred to as "The Rock", which comes from the traditional name "Rock of Polynesia". Niue is one of the world's largest coral islands. The terrain of the island has two noticeable levels. The higher level is made up of a limestone cliff running along the coast, with a plateau in the centre of the island reaching approximately 60 metres (200 feet) above sea level. The lower level is a coastal terrace approximately 0.5 km (0.3 miles) wide and about 25–27 metres (80–90 feet) high, which slopes down and meets the sea in small cliffs.
