Nineveh, Indiana
Nineveh is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Nineveh Township, Johnson County, Indiana, Nineveh Township, Johnson County, Indiana, Johnson County, Indiana, United States. Nineveh took its name from Nineveh Creek, which in turn is named after Nineveh Berry, a hunter who fell into the creek while hunting for deer. The town also has the Cordry-Sweetwater branch library. Scenes from the film ''Hoosiers (film), Hoosiers'' were shot in the old Nineveh Elementary School, which was renamed "Hickory High School" for the film. Nineveh's last class of students attended here during the filming of the film in 1985, after which they relocated to Trafalgar, Indiana, Trafalgar to consolidate at Indian Creek Elementary School. The old school was lost to a fire just a few years after it was closed for consolidation. Harry McQuinn
Harry McQuinn (December 13, 1905–January 1, 1986 ) was an American racecar driver active in the 1930s and 1940s. Born in Nineveh, Indiana, McQuinn raced in a Bob Wilke/Leader Card-sponsored midget car owned by the Marchese Brothers from Milwaukee. He raced before the AAA named an official national champion. McQuinn won 1938, 1939, and 1940 track championships at the 124th Field Artillery Armory in Chicago, the 1937 and 1938 Walsh Stadium track championships in St. Louis in 1937 and 1938, the 1938 Riverview track championship in Chicago, and the 1938 track title at the Milwaukee Mile. William Merritt Chase
William Merritt Chase (November 1, 1849October 25, 1916) was an American painter, known as an exponent of Impressionism and as a teacher. He is also responsible for establishing the Chase School, which later would become Parsons School of Design. Early life and training William Merritt Chase was born on November 1, 1849, in Williamsburg (now Nineveh, Indiana, Nineveh), Indiana, to the family of Sarah Swain and David H. Chase, a local businessman. Chase's father moved the family to Indianapolis, Indiana, Indianapolis in 1861, and employed his son as a salesman in the family business. Trafalgar, Indiana
Trafalgar is a town in Nineveh and Hensley townships, Johnson County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,101 at the 2010 census. This town is south of Indianapolis. It is the home of the transmitters for WTTV, WTTS, WSOM and WHZN. History Col. Avery M. Buckner is credited for platting a town, in the early 1850s, along a short-lived flat bar railroad that ran between Franklin, and Martinsville. First named Liberty, the name was changed to Trafalgar. Soon Ezekiel W. Morgan came to town to open a store. Denied a site near the railroad, he bought land in a nearby village founded by George Bridges. In 1868, the railroad was rebuilt as the Fairland and Martinsville branch of the Big Four. The post office (and town name) was moved to Morgan's store.
