Nine Arch Bridge, Demodara
The Nine Arches Bridge ( si, ආරුක්කු නමයේ පාලම,) also called the Bridge in the Sky, is a viaduct bridge in Sri Lanka. It is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country. It is located in Demodara, between Ella and Demodara railway stations. The surrounding area has seen a steady increase of tourism due to the bridge's architectural ingenuity and the profuse greenery in the nearby hillsides. The construction of the bridge is generally attributed to a local Ceylonese builder, P. K. Viaduct
A viaduct is a specific type of bridge that consists of a series of arches, piers or columns supporting a long elevated railway or road. Demodara
Demodera is a town in the central highlands of Sri Lanka, located in the Badulla District of Uva Province. It is approximately south of Badulla (the capital of Uva Province), on the A16 (Beragala - Hali Ela road). Transport It is served by railway station of the Sri Lanka Railways on the Badulla branch. There is a spiral at this location. It is easily visible from the Demodara railway station. This involves a tunnel which actually runs beneath the Demodara railway station. On the track which exists, the tunnel winds around a mountain, continuously ascending to end up at a higher elevation on what was the mountain under which the tunnel is built. Ella (; ''Lit.'' "water fall"; ta, எல்ல) is a small town in the Badulla District of Uva Province, Sri Lanka governed by an Urban Council. Demodara Railway Station
Demodara railway station is the 76th and third last railway station on the Main Line, and is away from Colombo. It is located above mean sea level and from Badulla, the capital city of Uva Province. All the trains that run on the Main Line, including the Podi Menike and Udarata Menike express trains stop at the station. The station is most notable for its spiral rail line at this location, popularly known as the 'Demodara Loop'. The rail line passes under itself, going around the loop and emerging from a tunnel, which runs directly beneath the Demodara railway station. The rail loop is approximately long and the tunnel is in length. It is considered the only loop in the world with a railway station situated exactly over a tunnel at spiral loop. The Nine Arches Bridge is the informal name of a viaduct over the River Dodder in Milltown, Dublin, Ireland. The Luas tram Green Line crosses the bridge. There is no access for pedestrians.
