Nindigully Pub
The Nindigully Pub, built in 1864 in the town of Nindigully within the locality of Thallon, Shire of Balonne, Queensland, Australia, is believed to be one of state's longest continually licensed premises. It was a Cobb & Co changing station between the late 19th century and the early 20th century. Events The Nindigully Pig Races and Country Music Festival, and fireworks are held annually on the last Saturday in November at the pub. It raises money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Filming In the 1990s, scenes from Paperback Hero starring Hugh Jackman and Claudia Karvan were filmed on location at the Nindigully Pub. Nindigully is a rural town within the locality of Thallon in the Shire of Balonne, Queensland, Australia. Geography Nindigully is north of the town of Thallon, the main town in the locality. The Moonie River flows south to north passing the town immediately to the west. The Carnarvon Highway passes north to south passing the town immediately to the east; the Barwon Highway has its junction with the Carnarvon Highway to the north-east of the town. History The name ''Nindigully'' is said to be a combination of an Aboriginal word (''nindi'' meaning ''small'') and the English word gully. The town presumably takes its name from the Nindi Gully pastoral run operated by Mr Baldwin which existed from at least 1862 although often spelt as Nindigually in its early years. Cobb & Co
Cobb & Co was the name used by many successful sometimes quite independent Australian coaching businesses. The first was established in 1853 by American Freeman Cobb and his partners. The name Cobb & Co grew to great prominence in the late 19th century, when it was carried by many stagecoaches carrying passengers and mail to various Australian goldfields, and later to many regional and remote areas of the Australian outback. The same name was used in New Zealand and Freeman Cobb used it in South Africa. Although the Queensland branch of the company made an effort to transition to automobiles in the early 20th century, high overhead costs and the growth of alternative transport options for mail, including rail and air, saw the final demise of Cobb & Co.
