Ninas Barn
''Ninas barn'' (Nina's Children) is a 2015 documentary film about the Jewish Children's Home in Oslo during the Second World War. The film was written and directed by Nina Grünfeld, and it was produced by her company Gründer Film. A book containing the story was also written by Espen Holm and Nina Grünfeld, and it was published by Kagge Forlag in 2015. Story The Jewish Children's Home was located on ''Holtegata'' in the Homansbyen neighborhood of Oslo. A group of Austrian Jewish children had been invited by Nansen Relief to Norway for a summer camp, and they arrived in the summer of 1938. While they were staying in Norway, the situation for Jews in Austria became increasingly difficult, and the parents were offered to let the children stay in Norway. Nina Grünfeld
Nina Frederikke Grünfeld (born July 27, 1966) is a Norwegian film director and author, and the former head of the Norwegian Film Directors (NFR) trade union. Career Grünfeld studied mass communication, Eastern European studies, film, and TV in Oslo, and she has a bachelor's degree in film directing from the Swedish Institute of Dramatic Art in Stockholm. She is a professor at the Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences. She was previously head of research and development at the Westerdals School of Communication. Grünfeld has held board positions in a number of art and cultural institutions. She owns and runs the film production company Gründer Film in Oslo. In 2015, Grünfeld launched the charitable jewelry project Coexista at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo. The profit from sales went to combating Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and extremism. Berthold Grünfeld
Berthold Grünfeld (22 January 1932 – 20 August 2007) was a Norwegian psychiatrist, sexologist, and professor of social medicine at the University of Oslo. He was also a recognized expert in forensic psychiatry, often employed by Norwegian courts to examine insanity defense pleas. Biography Grünfeld was born in Bratislava in what was then Czechoslovakia. In 1939, when he was seven, he and 34 other Jewish children were separated from their families in an attempt by Nansenhjelpen to rescue them from the early manifestations of the Holocaust. The group of children was sent by train to Norway via Berlin, after having been told they would never again see their parents. Nic Waal, born Caroline Schweigaard Nicolaysen in Kristiania, Norway (1 January 1905 – 28 May 1960) was a Norwegian psychiatrist, noted for her work among children and adolescents in Norway where she is known as "the mother of Norwegian pediatric and adolescent psychiatry." Sigrid Helliesen Lund (23 February 1892 – 8 December 1987) was a Norwegian peace activist, noted for her humanitarian efforts throughout most of the 20th century, and in particular her resistance to the occupation of Norway during World War II. On 14 May 2006, Yad Vashem posthumously named her one of the Righteous Among the Nations for her work during the Holocaust. Righteous Among the Nations ( he, חֲסִידֵי אֻמּוֹת הָעוֹלָם, ; "righteous (plural) of the world's nations") is an honorific used by the State of Israel to describe non-Jews who risked their lives during the Holocaust to save Jews from extermination by the Nazis for altruistic reasons. Nina Hasvoll (née Hackel, May 25, 1910 – December 19, 1999), surname also Hasvold and Hasvold Meyer, was a Russian–Norwegian psychoanalyst. She headed the Jewish Children's Home in Oslo during the Second World War, and she escaped to Sweden in 1942 with 14 children. Gaute Storaas (born 20 August 1959 in Bergen, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician ( bass) and composer, and the older brother of jazz pianist Vigleik Storaas. Career Storaas grew out of the flowering musical environment in Bergen late 70es, early 80es, and was well known for his innovative bass playing on the local rock and jazz scene. Nansenhjelpen (formally called Nansen Hjelp, variously called the Nansen Relief in English and Nansenhilfe in German) was a Norwegian humanitarian organization founded by Odd Nansen in 1936 to provide safe haven and assistance in Norway for Jewish refugees from areas in Europe under Nazi control.
