Nils Poppe
Nils Poppe (31 May 1908 – 28 June 2000) was a Swedish actor, comedian, director, screenwriter and theatre manager. He is internationally most famous for his part in Ingmar Bergman's ''The Seventh Seal'', but in Sweden he was much loved and participated in over 50 films on cinema and TV. Biography Background Poppe's mother was unmarried and forced to place him with a Danish foster mother in Malmö, Sweden, who put him on a diet of bread dipped in beer. After two years he was rescued from her by Anders and Amanda Jönsson at Möllevången in Malmö, who became his foster parents. His theatrical dreams began to blossom early, and at school he showed off his comic talent. On 1 August 1926, Poppe enlisted in the navy and trained as a torpedoman at the 1st Professional Company in Karlskrona as No. 427 Jönsson. Plot summary Harry Orvar Larsson is a poor tramp who, because of his hopeless existence put the noose around his neck to try to hang himself. But the rope defects and the spark of life returns to him when he meets a more optimistic partner in adversity, the philosopher and tramp, Anton Bodin. Harry then gets a job as a lumberjack, with the wicked brothers Sint. He meets the young sweet female cook that works for the brothers and they fall in love with each other. Filmstaden was a film studio situated in Råsunda, Solna Municipality in Stockholm, Sweden. History Filmstaden was once one of the most modern film studios in Europe. It was built in 1919–1920 on the basis of designs by Swedish architect Ebbe Crone (1885-1960). It was owned and operated by SF Studios (''Svensk Filmindustri''), the main Swedish film producer at the time. Some 400 movies have been created at Filmstaden. The first movie to be filmed at Filmstaden was ''The Phantom Carriage'' (''Körkarlen''. 1921) by director Victor Sjöström. Practically all Swedish actors and film directors of the 20th century had some connection with Filmstaden. Södra Teatern is a theatre in Stockholm, Sweden. It is located at Mosebacke torg on Södermalm in Stockholm. The venue is the oldest theatre in Stockholm and is situated in the heart of the city. History Södra Teatern is one of Sweden's oldest active theaters. The current theater was designed by architect Johan Fredrik Åbom (1817-1900) and was inaugurated in 1859.
