Nikolaus Mondt
Nikolaus "Niki" Mondt (born 9 August 1978 in Düsseldorf) is a German former professional ice hockey player. He began and later returned to complete his playing hockey career with Düsseldorfer EG in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Playing career Mondt began his pro career with Düsseldorfer EG during the 1995–96 season, playing 14 games and winning the DEL championship, though he did not dress for a playoff game. In the years following, Mondt was among the top performers on the team until the club was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1998. He then played two seasons for the Kassel Huskies until he rejoined Düsseldorfer EG when they were promoted back to the top level. The Ingolstadt Panthers added Mondt during the 2002–03 season, where he would be named a DEL All-Star each of the following two seasons. 2002–03 DEL Season
The 2002–03 Deutsche Eishockey Liga season was the 9th season since the founding of the (German Ice Hockey League). The Krefeld Pinguine became German Champions. The Schwenninger ERC Wild Wings lost their license due to insolvency proceedings and the Frankfurt Lions were granted a stay in the league. Regular season The eight best-placed teams in the regular season would enter playoffs, while the last two teams would have to fight relegation in a playdown series. 2001–02 DEL Season
The 2001–02 Deutsche Eishockey Liga season was the 8th season since the founding of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga ( en, German Ice Hockey League). The league also introduced a new logo, that will stay in use until the 2011-2012 season. The Kölner Haie won the DEL Championship the second time in their history, making it the eighth time they held the German Champion title. Relegation was reintroduced for this season and after a playdown the Berlin Capitals were relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. This would not be the only teams leaving the league, as the DEL withdrew the license for the Moskitos Essen and Revierlöwen Oberhausen. The 2000–01 Deutsche Eishockey Liga season was the 7th season since the founding of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga ( en, German Ice Hockey League). The Adler Mannheim won the DEL Championship the fourth time in 5 seasons, extending their dominance in German ice hockey. It was also the fifth time in their history they held the German Champion title. A change was brought to the format of play. 1996–97 DEL Season
The 1996–97 Deutsche Eishockey Liga season was the 3rd season of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga ( en, German Ice Hockey League). Adler Mannheim became the DEL Champion, winning a German title for the second time in their history. Both the Ratinger Löwen and Wedemark Scorpions earned their keep in the league playing against 1st League EHC Neuwied and TSV Erding. The Bosman ruling, a 1995 decision of the European Court of Justice regarding the movement of labor in soccer, had profound influence on the league. The old Bundesliga had national character: German clubs competing for the German title with mostly German players. Penalty (ice Hockey)
A penalty in ice hockey is a punishment for an infringement of the rules. Most penalties are enforced by sending the offending player to a penalty box for a set number of minutes. During the penalty the player may not participate in play. Penalties are called and enforced by the referee, or in some cases, the linesman. The offending team may not replace the player on the ice (although there are some exceptions, such as fighting), leaving them short-handed as opposed to full strength. When the opposing team is said to be on a ''power play'', they will have one more player on the ice than the short-handed team. The short-handed team is said to be "on the penalty kill" until the penalty expires and the penalized player returns to play. While standards vary somewhat between leagues, most leagues recognize several common varieties of penalties, as well as common infractions. Point (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, point has three contemporary meanings. Personal stat A point is awarded to a player for each goal scored or assist earned. The total number of goals plus assists equals total points. The Art Ross Trophy is awarded to the National Hockey League (NHL) player who leads the league in scoring points at the end of the regular season. Team stat Points are also awarded to assess standings (or rankings). Historically, teams were awarded two points for each win, one point for each tie and no points for a loss. Such a ranking system, implemented primarily to ensure a tie counted as a "half-win" for each team in the standings, is generally regarded as British and/or European in origin and as such adopted by the National Hockey League which was founded in Canada where leagues generally used ranking systems of British origin.
