2000–01 DEL Season
The 2000–01 Deutsche Eishockey Liga season was the 7th season since the founding of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga ( en, German Ice Hockey League). The Adler Mannheim won the DEL Championship the fourth time in 5 seasons, extending their dominance in German ice hockey. It was also the fifth time in their history they held the German Champion title. A change was brought to the format of play. The first 8 placed teams in the regular season would go into playoffs, while the season would end for the other teams. There would be no relegation. Deutsche Eishockey Liga
The Deutsche Eishockey Liga (for sponsorship reasons called "PENNY Deutsche Eishockey Liga") (; English: ''German Ice Hockey League'') or DEL, is a German professional ice hockey league and the highest division in German ice hockey. Founded in 1994, it was formed as a replacement for the Eishockey-Bundesliga and became the new top-tier league in Germany as a result. Unlike the old Bundesliga, the DEL is not under the administration of the German Ice Hockey Federation. The DEL is regarded as one of Europe's premier ice hockey divisions behind leagues in Sweden, Finland and Switzerland. Three German clubs represent the DEL on the European stage each season in the Champions Hockey League, although no German club has yet won this competition. Frankfurt Lions
The Frankfurt Lions were a German professional men's ice hockey club from Frankfurt, Germany that played in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. The club ceased operations in 2010 due to financial difficulty. History The hockey team was founded as a section of the renowned sports club ''Eintracht Frankfurt'' in 1959. After the section split from the club on March 5, 1991, the hockey team was renamed the Frankfurter ESC "Die Löwen" (meaning ''The Lions''). When the DEL formed in 1994, the team became known as the Frankfurt Lions. It experienced its greatest success in 2004 when it won the DEL, but folded in 2010 after having had their licence revoked and was replaced by a phoenix club, the Löwen Frankfurt. Playoff Format
There are a number of formats used in various levels of competition in sports and games to determine an overall champion. Iserlohn Roosters
The Iserlohn Roosters are a professional ice hockey team based in Iserlohn, North Rhine-Westphalia. They are members of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) since 2000 and play their home games at the Eissporthalle Iserlohn which is also known as ''Eissporthalle am Seilersee''. The team made the playoffs three times in its first 15 seasons in the DEL. The Roosters are widely regarded for their fans and having one of the best atmospheres at home games in Europe despite having an arena capacity for just 4967 spectators. Eisbären Berlin (; English: ''Berlin Polar Bears'') is a professional ice hockey team based in Berlin, Germany. The team competes in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), the highest level of play in professional German ice hockey, and is also one of the league's founding members. SERC Wild Wings
The Schwenninger Wild Wings are a professional German ice hockey team from Schwenningen am Neckar in Baden-Wuerttemberg that was founded on 31 July 1904 and currently plays in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). The greatest success of the association was to reach the play-off semi-finals of the first Bundesliga in 1990. In 1994 the Wild Wings were a founding member of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. The Krefeld Pinguine (Krefeld Penguins) are an ice hockey team in the DEL2. Their home ice is in Krefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany at the König Palast. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey.
