Nikolaj Hess
Nikolaj Hess is a Danish jazz pianist, composer, producer and arranger. Biography Nikolaj Hess won the gold prize in the ''"Berlingske Tidendes"'' competition of non-classical music in Copenhagen and won the category for best European jazz piano player under 25, in the RAI competition in Rome (1991). Having graduated from The Rhythmic Conservatory at 22, he was the first to get the top grade for his concert performance in piano, his main subject. Hess has composed and arranged for solo pianists, small groups, large string ensemble, big band, choirs and saxophone quartets. He has also written music for the Danish film company Zentropa for Lars Von Trier's "Melancholia" (2011), Tju Bang Film and German "Meeres Stille" (2013) as well as for radio: DR, NKR, Hungarian Radio, Den Kongelige Ballet, Det Kongelige Teater, dance companies, installations in collaborations with visual artists. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chords, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation. Jazz has roots in European harmony and African rhythmic rituals. Spacelab
Spacelab was a reusable laboratory developed by European Space Agency (ESA) and used on certain spaceflights flown by the Space Shuttle. The laboratory comprised multiple components, including a pressurized module, an unpressurized carrier, and other related hardware housed in the Shuttle's cargo bay. The components were arranged in various configurations to meet the needs of each spaceflight. Spacelab components flew on a total of about 32 Shuttle missions, depending on how such hardware and missions are tabulated. Spacelab allowed scientists to perform experiments in microgravity in geocentric orbit. Caroline Henderson (singer)
Caroline Henderson (born 28 February 1962) is a Danish–Swedish pop and jazz singer. She moved to Copenhagen from Sweden in 1983 and spent her youth singing in various jazz bands. Her breakthrough was in 1989 as part of pop group Ray Dee Ohh. After the group disbanded, Henderson launched a solo career with multi award-winning album ''Cinemataztic'' (1995) featuring smash hits "Kiss Me Kiss Me" and "Made in Europe". Follow-up ''Metamorphing'' (1998), disco cover album ''Dolores J - The Butterfly'' (2000) and the more experimental ''Naos'' (2002) didn't have the same commercial impact. Jazz Pianist
Jazz piano is a collective term for the techniques pianists use when playing jazz. The piano has been an integral part of the jazz idiom since its inception, in both solo and ensemble settings. Its role is multifaceted due largely to the instrument's combined melodic and harmonic capabilities. A composer is a person who writes music. The term is especially used to indicate composers of Western classical music, or those who are composers by occupation.
