Niedersächsisches Staatsorchester Hannover
The Hanover State Symphony Orchestra (german: Niedersächsisches Staatsorchester Hannover) is based in Hanover, the state capital of Lower Saxony, Germany. It serves as the orchestra of the Hanover State Opera (), and primarily performs its symphony concerts at Hanover Opera House (). History George, Duke of Brunswick-Calenberg established the precursor ensemble to the orchestra as his court orchestra () in 1636. In 1852, this ensemble became established in the city of Hanover. Since 1 January 1970, the orchestra has been part of Hanover State Theatre of Lower Saxony (). , its roster numbers 105 members. Hanover (; german: Hannover ; nds, Hannober) is the capital and largest city of the German state of Lower Saxony. Lower Saxony (german: Niedersachsen ; nds, Neddersassen; stq, Läichsaksen) is a German state (') in northwestern Germany. Hanover State Opera (german: Staatsoper Hannover) is an opera company in Hanover, the state capital of Lower Saxony, Germany. The company is resident in the Hanover Opera House (), and is part of a publicly-funded umbrella performing arts organisation called Hanover State Theatre of Lower Saxony (), or simply Hanover State Theatre (). George, Duke Of Brunswick-Calenberg
George, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg (17 February 1582, in Celle – 12 April 1641, in Hildesheim), ruled as Prince of Calenberg from 1635. George was the sixth son of William, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg (1535–1592) and Dorothea of Denmark (1546–1617). His mother was daughter to King Christian III of Denmark and Dorothea of Saxe-Lauenburg. She acted as a regent during the early years of his reign, keeping power from the Councillors who had mismanaged the estates during his father's fits of insanity. In the 1635 re-division of the territories of the House of Welf, after the death of Frederick Ulrich, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, he received the Principality of Calenberg, which included the former Principality of Göttingen, since 1495, while his elder brother, Augustus the Elder, retained the Principality of Lüneburg. George Alexander Albrecht
George Alexander Albrecht (15 February 1935 – 21 December 2021) was a German conductor and composer, who also worked as a musicologist and academic teacher. A prolific composer at a young age, he was Generalmusikdirektor (GMD) of the Staatsoper Hannover from 1965 for 30 years, where he led not only the major operas by Mozart and stageworks by Wagner, but contemporary composers, such as Aribert Reimann's ''Troades'' in 1987. He was GMD of the Nationaltheater Weimar from 1996, and taught at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt, Weimar. Albrecht promoted the works of neglected composers such as Wilhelm Furtwängler, Hans Pfitzner, and Erwin Schulhoff. In retirement, he focused on composing again. Karen Kamensek
Karen Kamensek (born January 2, 1970 in Chicago) is an American orchestral and opera conductor. Biography Her parents came from Kamnica pri Mariboru, Slovenia. Kamensek received degrees in orchestral conducting and piano performance from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. Kamensek has served as the 1st Kapellmeister of the Volksoper Wien from 2000 to 2002. She was ''Generalmusikdirektorin'' (General Music Director) of the Theater Freiburg from 2003 to 2006, the first female conductor in the Freiburg past. She has served as Interim Music Director at the Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor from 2007 to 2008, and Associate Music Director at the Staatsoper Hamburg from 2008 to 2011. Johannes Schüler
Johannes Schüler (21 June 18943 October 1966) was a German conductor who held leading positions at opera houses such as the Berlin State Opera and the Staatsoper Hannover. He promoted contemporary music, leading the world premieres of Alban Berg's Three Pieces for Orchestra in 1930, and Henze's ''Boulevard Solitude'' in 1952. Life Schüler was born in Vietz (now Witnica, Poland), the son of an organist. He studied at the University of Berlin and the Musikhochschule Charlottenburg from 1913 to 1914, and again after the World War, in which he served in the military from 1918 to 1920. Günther Wich
Günther Wich (or Günter, born 23 May 1928) is a German conductor who was Generalmusikdirektor (GMD) of the Staatsoper Hannover, and for 17 years of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. He was professor of conducting at the Musikhochschule Würzburg. Life and career Wich was born in Bamberg, Germany. His first instrument was the recorder, but he soon changed to the flute, taking lessons from a flutist of the Theater Saarbrücken. After his Abitur in 1949, he studied at the Musikhochschule Freiburg flute with Gustav Scheck and conducting with Konrad Lechner and Carl Ueter. From 1952, he worked as an assistant of GMD Heinz Dressel at the Theater Freiburg who delegated him to the operetta, finding his piano playing not sufficient for opera. Christof Perick
Christof Prick (born 1946) is a German orchestra conductor. He uses the name Christof Perick in English-speaking countries. His father was the concertmaster of the Hamburg Philharmonic. Biography Born in Hamburg, Prick studied at the University of Music and Theater in his hometown Hamburg. He was appointed to the Theater Saarbrücken as Germany's youngest general music director in 1974. Andreas Delfs (born 30 August 1959) is a German Conductor (music), conductor. He is the music director of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor laureate of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Biography Delfs was born in Flensburg, West Germany. He began studying piano and music theory at age ten, and by age twenty was named Music Director of the Hamburg University Orchestra. Delfs graduated from Hamburger Konservatorium, Hamburg Conservatory in 1981, and earned his Master's at Juilliard School of Music in 1984. Lü Shao-chia
Lü Shao-chia (; born 1960) is a Taiwanese conductor. He has been music director of the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan since 2010. Biography Born in Hsinchu, Taiwan, Lü studied piano at an early age. Initiated by Taiwanese conductor Chen Chiu-sen, he later turned to conducting and went on to Indiana University and Vienna Hochschule für Musik.
