Nicole Kiil-Nielsen
Nicole Kiil-Nielsen (born 21 August 1949, in Larchamp) is a French politician and Member of the European Parliament elected in the 2009 European election for the West France constituency. She is a member of The Greens. She has been a feminist and anti-nuclear activist since the 1960s. She won her first elected office in the 2001 municipal elections in Rennes as a candidate on Edmond Hervé's winning left-wing coalition list. She became assistant to the Mayor in charge of decentralized co-operation and international solidarity. However, in the 2008 municipal elections, she did not join Daniel Delaveau's left-wing union list and led her own list, ''Rennes verte et solidaire'', which won 8.93% in the first round and did not participate in the runoff. Edmond Hervé
Edmond Hervé (born 3 December 1942) is a French politician, a member of the Socialist Party and French senator from 2008 to 2014. He was the mayor of Rennes from 1977 to 2008, succeeding Henri Fréville. Biography Born in La Bouillie, Côtes-d'Armor, the son of tenant farmers, Hervé graduated in public law at the University of Rennes and also has a graduate degree in political science. He became a teacher in administrative law and in constitutional law in 1969. Hervé has a daughter and twin sons. Mayor of Rennes Hervé made his way in politics through activism and became the mayor of Rennes in 1977. He abandoned his job as a teacher to dedicate himself to his mandate. The European Parliament (EP) is one of the legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions. Together with the Council of the European Union (known as the Council and informally as the Council of Ministers), it adopts European legislation, following a proposal by the European Commission. Europe Écologie
Europe Ecology (french: Europe Écologie) was a green electoral coalition of political parties in France created for the 2009 European elections composed of The Greens and other ecologists and regionalists. For the European Parliament election in 2014, this electoral alliance was renewed. The coalition was launched on 20 October 2008 with the support of the European Green Party and Daniel Cohn-Bendit, a Franco-German MEP previously representing the Alliance '90/The Greens of Germany, but who ran in France in 2009. Since its creation, the coalition received the support of Cécile Duflot, José Bové and Dominique Voynet amongst others. After winning a record 16.28% of the vote in the 2009 European elections, the coalition maintained itself to participate in the 2010 regional elections. Daniel Delaveau
Daniel Delaveau (born 22 December 1952 in Châlette-sur-Loing, Loiret) is a French politician and former Mayor of Rennes. He is a member of the Socialist Party. He was born in a working-class family, and was active in Catholic youth organizations before joining the Unified Socialist Party in the 1970s and the PS in 1974. In 1989, he was elected mayor of the Rennes suburb of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande and in 1994 he joined the department general council as councillor for Rennes-Sud-Ouest. In September 2007, he was designated by his party to lead the left-wing list (Socialist Party, PCF, PRG, UDB) in the March 2008 Rennes municipal election. In the 2008 local elections, he was elected Mayor of Rennes, succeeding PS incumbent Edmond Hervé, with 60.40% of the votes in the runoff. 2008 French Municipal Elections
The French municipal elections of 2008 were held on 9 and 16 March to elect the municipal councils of France's 36,782 communes. The first task of each newly constituted municipal council was to elect a mayor. Municipal councilors, and the mayors they elect, ordinarily serve a term of six years. However those who took office following the last municipal elections, held on 11 and 18 March 2001, had their terms extended to seven years by an Act of the French parliament designed to avoid an overloading of the electoral calendar in 2007. Results The left gained back grounds lost in 2001 and in previous elections and sent a message of warning to President Nicolas Sarkozy, in power since 2007. Municipal elections were held in France on 11 and 18 March 2001. These elections were marked by a setback for the left and a victory for the right one year before the 2002 presidential election. However, the capital, Paris and the second largest city, Lyon both switched to the left. Following the second round, the right controlled 318 municipalities, the left 259.
