Nicole Boudreau (Quebec Administrator)
Nicole Boudreau (born September 14, 1949) is a Canadian administrator, activist, and politician in Montreal, Quebec. Closely associated with the Quebec sovereigntist movement, she led the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Society in Montreal from 1986 to 1989 and oversaw the group Partenaires pour la souveraineté (Partners of Sovereignty) in the 1990s. Boudreau has also sought election at the municipal level in Montreal. She is not to be confused with a different Nicole Boudreau who served on the Montreal city council from 1986 to 1994. Early life and education Boudreau was born to a working-class family in Noranda, Quebec. She studied art at the Université de Paris and later earned a philosophy degree from the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Saint-Jean-Baptiste Society
The Saint-Jean-Baptiste Society (french: Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste) is an institution in Quebec dedicated to the protection of Quebec francophone interests and to the promotion of Quebec sovereignism. It is known as the oldest patriotic association in French North America. The society's president from 2009 to 2014, Mario Beaulieu, subsequently became leader of the Bloc Québécois. Its current president, Maxime Laporte, is known for being coordinator (president) of ''Cap sur l'indépendance'', an umbrella group of various independentist organisations. History The society was created by Ludger Duvernay, a journalist for ''La Minerve'' in Lower Canada. Robert Bourassa
Robert Bourassa (; July 14, 1933 – October 2, 1996) was a Canadian lawyer and politician who served as the 22nd premier of Quebec from 1970 to 1976 and from 1985 to 1994. A member of the Liberal Party of Quebec, he served a total of just under 15 years as premier. Bourassa's tenure was marked by major events affecting Quebec, including the October Crisis and the Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords. Peter Blaikie
Peter Macfarlane Blaikie is a Canadian lawyer and a bilingual politician from Quebec and founder of Heenan Blaikie. Genealogy Blaikie was born in Shawinigan, Mauricie on May 10, 1937. He was the son of Kenneth Guy "Bill" Blaikie (1897–1968) and Mary Petrie Black. His great grandfather moved to South Africa from Scotland in 1861. His grandfather served in active duty during the Second Boer War and died during the Siege of Ladysmith in 1900. His father, who was a Rhodes Scholar, moved to Canada and worked as a chemist in the laboratory of the ''Shawinigan Chemicals Industries''. Alliance Quebec (AQ) was a group formed in 1982 to lobby on behalf of English-speaking Quebecers in the province of Quebec, Canada. It began as an umbrella group of many English-speaking organizations and institutions in the province, with approximately 15,000 members. At its height in the mid-1980s, the group had a network of affiliated anglophone groups throughout the province. Paul Sauvé Arena
The Paul Sauvé Arena was an indoor arena located at 4000 Beaubien Est. in Montreal, Quebec, in its Rosemont district. Built in 1960 and demolished in 1992–93, the arena had a capacity of 4,000 people. It was named after Paul Sauvé (March 24, 1907 – January 2, 1960), a Quebec Premier with the Union Nationale. The arena hosted some of the most important events in modern Quebec political history. It was the site of the Parti Québécois election victory celebrations on November 15, 1976 and on April 13, 1981. Additionally, it was the site of two of the most important moments of the 1980 referendum.
