Nicolae Kovács
Nicolae Kovács ( hu, Kovács Miklós, sometimes rendered as ''Nicolae Covaci'', 29 December 1911 – 7 July 1977) was a Romanian-Hungarian football player and coach. He was a dual international football player and played both for Romania and Hungary. For the Romania national football team, he won 37 caps and participated in the 1930, 1934 and 1938 World Cups, being one of five players to have appeared in all three of the pre-war World Cups. The other players were Edmond Delfour, Étienne Mattler, Bernard Voorhoof and Rudolf Bürger, according to official FIFA match reports. Later, he also represented the Hungary national football team once. He was the older brother of Ștefan Kovács, the famous coach who led AFC Ajax to two European Cups in 1972 and 1973. Plugova
Mehadia ( hu, Mehádia; german: Mehadia; tr, Mehadiye) is a small market town and commune in Caraș-Severin County, Banat, Romania. It lies on the European route E70, in the Cerna River valley. The town is located on the site of the ancient Roman colony Ad Mediam and was noted for its Hercules baths. It had a population of 2,492 in 1900, and of 4,118 in 2011. The commune is prone to major recurring flooding. The 1838 floods destroyed some 2,000 houses in the valley and the 1841 floods in Mehadia were also devastating. It experienced major flooding more recently in May 2005. The commune is composed of four villages: Globurău (''Golbor''), Mehadia, Plugova (''Ekés''), and Valea Bolvașnița (''Bolvásvölgy''). FC Politehnica Timișoara
Fotbal Club Politehnica Timișoara (), commonly known as Politehnica Timișoara or simply Poli Timișoara, was a Romanian football club from Timișoara, Timiș County, established in 1921 and dissolved in 2012. During its existence, the team won two Cupa României trophies and was twice runner-up in the Liga I. It amassed 49 seasons in the latter competition. Named after and initially run by the Polytechnic University of Timișoara, the club was founded in 1921 by mathematician Traian Lalescu. After two decades spent in the regional leagues, Politehnica promoted to the top flight in 1948. Rudolf Bürger
Rudolf Bürger (31 October 1908 – 20 January 1980) was a Romanian international footballer and coach of German ethnicity in the 1920s and 1930s who is one of a few men who participated in each of the three pre-War FIFA World Cups. Bürger played football for Ripensia TimiÅŸoara, the first professional team in Romania which came to prominence after 1932 under the direction of Rudolf Wetzer and was strong in the 1930s. Wetzer was both captain and coach of the Romanian national team at the 1930 World Cup. Bürger did not play in the 2nd World Cup but made appearances in both the first and third editions of the competition. Bernard Voorhoof
Bernard Voorhoof (10 May 1910 – 18 February 1974) was a Belgian footballer, for 34 years the Belgium national team top scorer with 30 goals in 61 matches. He was joined by Paul Van Himst in 1972 who needed 81 matches to score the same number of goals. Both are now surpassed by Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard. Career He started his career at Lierse SK and stayed there for 21 years. With Lierse, he scored 350 goals in 529 matches and won 2 Belgian First Division Titles and a third unofficial title in the shortened 1940−41 season. He also played one season with R.R.F.C. Montegnée before retiring in 1949, age 39. He was part of Belgium's team at the 1928 Summer Olympics, but he did not play in any matches. Étienne Mattler (25 December 1905 – 23 March 1986) was a French international footballer, nicknamed ''Le Lion de Belfort''. Career Mattler, born in Belfort, played for the clubs US Belfort (1921–1927), AS Troyes (1927–1929), and FC Sochaux (1929–1946) where he won two Ligue 1 titles in 1935 and 1938 and one Coupe de France in 1937. Edmond Delfour (1 November 1907 – 19 December 1990) was a French international footballer who played as a midfielder, before later becoming a manager. Career Delfour was born in Ris-Orangis. He played for Viry-Châtillon, Draveil, Juvisy-sur-Orge, Stade Français (1928–29), RC Paris (1929–37), RC Roubaix (1937–39), FC Rouen (1939–45) and Red Star Olympique (1945–46). The 1938 FIFA World Cup was the third edition of the World Cup, the quadrennial international football championship for senior men's national teams and was held in France from 4 June until 19 June 1938. Italy defended its title in the final, beating Hungary 4–2. The 1930 FIFA World Cup was the inaugural FIFA World Cup, the world championship for men's national football teams. It took place in Uruguay from 13 to 30 July 1930. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps.
