Nico Young
Nico Young (born July 27, 2002) is an American distance runner competing as a sophomore for Northern Arizona University. He grew up in Camarillo, California and attended Newbury Park High School. He competed in the United States Olympics Trials in 2021. Athletic career High School Career Young ran for Newbury Park High School in Newbury Park, California. He broke the 3 mile cross country American high school record at the 2019 Woodbridge Invitational, running a time of 13:39.7, and lowered the American high school indoor 3000m record (previously held by Drew Hunter), running a time of 7:56.91. At the 2019 Nike Cross Nationals, Young won the race and set the course record with a time of 14:52 and led Newbury Park to the team victory. 1600 Meters
1600 meters is a Middle-distance running, middle distance track and field running event. It is a standardized event in track meets conducted by the National Federation of State High School Associations, NFHS in American high school competition. When the organization went through metrication, finalized with their 1980 rule book, the 4 lap around a 440 yard, Imperial measured mile run, was replaced by the closest metric distance, 4 laps around a 400 meter track. That decision is not without controversy. The race is 9.344 meters shorter. Other organizations have followed the lead of the International Association of Athletics Federations, IAAF and use the 1500 meters as the closest equivalent. 800 Metres
The 800 metres, or meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional English racing distance. 800m is 4.67m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Runners in this event are occasionally fast enough to also compete in the 400 metres but more commonly have enough endurance to 'double up' in the 1500m. 2022 USA Outdoor Track And Field Championships
The 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships were held in Eugene, Oregon organized by USA Track and Field. It was serving as the national championships in track and field for the United States. The results of the event determined qualification for the 2022 World Athletics Championships, also held in Eugene. Provided they had achieved the World standard or are in the World Athletics ranking quota, the top three athletes in each event gained a place on the World team. In the event that a leading athlete did not hold the standard, or an athlete withdrew, the next highest finishing athlete with the standard was selected instead. USA Track and Field announced their World Championship roster based on these guidelines in July 2022. San Juan Capistrano, California
San Juan Capistrano (Spanish for " St. John of Capistrano") is a city in Orange County, California, located along the Orange Coast. The population was 34,593 at the 2010 census. Emilio "Leo" Martin Young (born February 28, 2005) is an American long-distance runner. He represented his home country in the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships where he led his team to a bronze medal in the (U20) Junior race a week and a half before his 18th birthday. His 16th place was the highest from a non-East African country. He qualified for the World Championships by winning the U20 race at the USA Cross Country Championships. While running for Newbury Park High School, he was the only person to be a part of three National Championship cross country teams over a four-year period, interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Each of those races was won by a teammate, his older brother Nico Young in 2019, Colin Sahlman in 2021, and Aaron Sahlman in 2022. The Gatorade Player of the Year awards are given annually to up and coming high school student-athletes in the United States. They are given for boys' baseball, boys' and girls' basketball, boys' and girls' cross country, boys' football, boys' and girls' soccer, boys' and girls' track & field, girls' softball, and girls' volleyball. Nike Cross Nationals (NXN) (formerly known as Nike Team Nationals) is an invitational cross country meet that serves as the unofficial team national championship of United States high school cross country. Sponsored by Nike, It was designed to heighten competition between high school cross country teams nationwide. NXN was formerly a part of the Nike Nationals Series, which included national events for indoor and outdoor track before New Balance became the sole national championship events for track and field. Drew Hunter (born September 5, 1997) is an American middle distance runner from Purcellville, Virginia, who competes for professional running group Tinman Elite. He set the national indoor mile record for high school boys in 2016. He was named Gatorade National Cross-Country Runner of the Year in 2016. He committed to the University of Oregon on November 12, 2015 but instead decided to pursue a professional career by signing a 10-year contract with Adidas on July 8, 2016.
