Nicklin Way
Nicklin Way (SR6) is a major road in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. It is named after former Queensland Premier Frank Nicklin, who opened the road on 5 June 1965. It runs from the southern end of the Sunshine Motorway at Mooloolaba in the north to Caloundra in the south, with the route signed as State Route 6. With the population of Sunshine Coast growing quickly, the road is often prone to congestion. Sunshine Motorway
The Sunshine Motorway is a thirty-three kilometre Australian motorway on the Sunshine Coast region of Queensland, just north of Brisbane. It was initially a tolled motorway before these were removed in 1996 after excessive complaints regarding the need of a toll. It is part of State Route 70, which extends north a further 12.3 kilometres to Noosaville. For completeness, and to aid in understanding of the usage of this road, the extension is included in this article. Overview The Sunshine Motorway is unusual in as much as it is a low budget motorway and also because it changes direction dramatically from east–west to north–south at the Nicklin Way interchange. Mooloolah River
The Mooloolah River is a river in South East Queensland, Australia. The river rises from the eastern slopes of the Blackall Range and flows east-northeast, similar to the Maroochy River to the north. The mouth of the river is at southern Mooloolaba. The catchment area covers 221 km2. Addlington Creek, a tributary of the Mooloolah River was dammed by the Ewen Maddock Dam in 1973. Mountain Creek is another tributary that rises on the Buderim mountain that divides the Mooloolah and Maroochy watersheds. The gastric-brooding frog is a recently extinct frog that was discovered in only three catchments, the Mary River, Mooloolah River and Stanley Rivers. Kawana Shoppingworld is a regional shopping centre located in Buddina, Queensland, Australia, that is operated by Mirvac. Anchor tenants include Coles Supermarkets, Aldi, Woolworths Supermarkets, Big W, and JB Hi-Fi. History The centre opened in 1979 and was the first shopping centre to open on the Sunshine Coast. Point Cartwright Light is an active lighthouse located on Point Cartwright, a point near the mouth of the Mooloolah River, in Mooloolaba, Queensland, Australia. It marks the entrance to the North West Channel, a deep water channel into Moreton Bay and the Port of Brisbane, and provides guidance into the Mooloolaba Harbour. History Old Caloundra Light, construction in 1896, was the first to serve the purpose of marking the entrance to the North West Channel. Changes in the shipping industry in the 1960s necessitated the construction of a modern signal and radar station, and thus New Caloundra Light was erected in 1967.
