Nicklaus Design is a company, founded and run by American professional golfer Jack Nicklaus, that designs and constructs golf courses. As of Feb 2019, the company had List of golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus, designed over 410 golf courses and 57 more under development around the world. These courses include Harbour Town Golf Links, Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort in south-east Spain, and Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, where the Memorial Tournament is played. Nicklaus Design is a family business, with Nicklaus's four sons and his son-in-law all involved with the company. As of 2008, the design team included Jim Lipe and Chris Cochran. Jack William Nicklaus (born January 21, 1940), nicknamed The Golden Bear, is a retired American professional golfer and List of golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus, golf course designer. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest golfers of all time. He won 117 professional tournaments in his career. Over a quarter-century, he won a record 18 Men's major golf championships, major championships, three more than second-placed Tiger Woods. Nicklaus focused on the major championships—the Masters Tournament, U.S. Open (golf), U.S. Open, The Open Championship, Open Championship and PGA Championship—and played a selective schedule of regular PGA Tour events. Golf Course
A golf course is the grounds on which the sport of golf is played. It consists of a series of holes, each consisting of a tee box, a fairway, the rough and other hazards, and a green with a cylindrical hole in the ground, known as a "cup". The cup holds a flagstick, known as a "pin". A standard round of golf consists of 18 holes, and as such most courses contain 18 distinct holes; however, there are many 9-hole courses and some that have holes with shared fairways or greens. This is a list of golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and his company Nicklaus Design, one of the largest golf design practices in the world. In the mid-1960s, Pete Dye initially requested Nicklaus' advice for the design of The Golf Club in suburban Columbus, Ohio. His first design Harbour Town Golf Links, co-credited with Dye, was opened for play in 1969. A subsequent early, yet more prominent design was Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio which opened in 1974 and has hosted the Memorial Tournament since its inception in 1976. This course has also hosted the 1987 Ryder Cup and the 1998 Solheim Cup matches. For the first few years, all of his projects were co-designs with either Pete Dye or Desmond Muirhead. Harbour Town Golf Links is a public golf course in the eastern United States, located in South Carolina in Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island in Beaufort County. Since 1969, it has hosted the RBC Heritage on the PGA Tour, usually in mid-April, the week after The Masters. Often referred to in the context of the PGA simply as "Hilton Head", Harbour Town Golf Links is ranked high among golf courses in America by ''Golf Digest'' and ''Golf Magazine''. Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort is a golf and leisure complex that opened in 2007. It is located between the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, in south-east Spain and surrounds a manor house that dates to the mid nineteenth century. Geography and location Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort is located in a rural location between the foothills of the mountains of Sierra de Columbares and the village of Sucina. The area has been designated as part of the Carrascoy and El Valle Regional Natural Park. Muirfield Village is an “upscale” golf-oriented community in the central United States, located in Dublin, Ohio, a suburb north of Columbus. Origins Founded by Jack Nicklaus, it is named after Muirfield, Scotland, where he won the first of his three British Open titles in 1966 to complete the first of his three career grand slams. The village contains an eponymous golf course that hosts the Memorial Tournament, a PGA Tour event played each spring since its inception in 1976.
