Nick Carter (athlete)
Ernest Nicholas Newton Carter (born September 4, 1902 in Globe, Arizona Territory – September 26, 1997 Santa Barbara, California) was an American track and field athlete, coach and official. He ran the 1500 metres in the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, finishing a non-qualifying 3rd place in his heat. Carter ran for Occidental College, finishing second in the Mile run at the NCAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 1925. He also finished third in the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships twice, in 1927 and 1928. Prior to Occidental, he ran for Lompoc High School, finishing second at the 1921 CIF California State Meet. Carter graduated from Occidental College in 1928 and then moved to the Claremont Graduate University. Following college, he took a job as the Olympic track coach for the Peruvian Olympic team. Conrad Powell "Nick" Carter (May 19, 1879 – November 23, 1961), was a professional baseball player. He played one season in Major League Baseball as a pitcher in 1908 for the Philadelphia Athletics. Early career Carter attended the University of Virginia. Carter was drafted by Athletics' owner and manager Connie Mack in 1907 after playing minor league baseball for the Syracuse Stars of the New York State League from 1903 to 1907. He was considered the best pitcher in the league that season by New York State League team managers. Philadelphia Athletics Carter pitched a late 1908 spring training game against the Athletics' cross-town rivals the Philadelphia Phillies and his performance was praised by the Philadelphia newspapers. Thomas Russell "Nick" Carter (5 September 1924 – 23 November 2003) was a racing cyclist from Nelson, New Zealand, who won a silver medal in the men's road race at the 1950 British Empire Games in Auckland. He also competed in the road race at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. Carter was educated at Nelson College from 1937 to 1939. He died in 2003 and his ashes were buried in Marsden Valley Cemetery, Stoke. Nick Carter (born 28 April 1978) is a former Australian rules football player. During his career Carter played for Fitzroy, Brisbane and Melbourne in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life Carter began playing football for Golden Square as a junior. He then played for the Bendigo Pioneers in the TAC Cup. Carter played for the Victorian Country team at the 1995 AFL Under 18 Championships. AFL career Fitzroy Carter was drafted by Fitzroy Football Club with the 20th selection in the 1995 AFL draft, with coach Michael Nunan stating the club was looking for "players with pace and finish to play in the midfield". Clarence "Nick" Carter (June 6, 1918 – October 25, 1989) of San Francisco, California, was a top-level amateur tennis player in the 1940s and 1950s. He was ranked as high as No. 17 in the U.S. In 1948, Carter was the runner-up at the U.S. Clay Court Championships (falling to Pancho Gonzalez, Richard "Pancho" Gonzalez in the final) and reached the round of 16 at the U.S. National Championships. Carter made his Minor Counties Championship debut for Cornwall in 1997 against Cheshire. General Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter, (born 11 February 1959) is a Kenyan-born former senior British Army officer who served as Chief of the Defence Staff from June 2018 to November 2021. Carter served as commanding officer of 2nd Battalion, Royal Green Jackets in which role he was deployed to Bosnia in 1998 and Kosovo in 1999. After service in Afghanistan, he took command of 20th Armoured Brigade in 2004 and commanded British forces in Basra.
